Why You’re Gaining Weight: 8 Reasons for Sudden Weight Gain

Stress, grief, puberty, pregnancy or menopause – eight typical situations in which we can suddenly gain weight. But you can do something about sudden weight gain.

1. Marriage

… …can make you pretty domesticated. When children are around, there is hardly any free time left anyway to do sports or do something. But many men now prefer to sit comfortably on the sofa at home.

2. Pregnancy

In fact, only about 300 calories a day more are needed for the baby’s growth, and that only from the fourth month onwards – nevertheless, some women organise real feeding orgies. And then they wonder why they are not as thin after the birth as they were before.

3. Breastfeeding

…and that’s usually when you lose the extra pounds. Still, a lot of people get ravenous appetites now. Anyone who then constantly eats chocolates and fatty cream cakes instead of muesli, spaghetti or cheese bread can quickly find new fat pads. By the way: Young mothers who do not breastfeed need about nine months (!) after birth to get back to their old shape.

4. Puberty

The body goes crazy, especially the hormones. They can mess up the fat metabolism quite a bit. Many girls get chubby, boys rarely. And many now begin to fight whims, frustration and dissatisfaction with food. It’s crap, of course. Just don’t start any rigid starvation regimens right now: As long as the body grows (until about the age of 20), everything still stretches out. In this case, too, the best thing to do is plenty of exercise and healthy food.

5. Grief

Worries about the children, gruelling quarrels with the partner, fear for the job and financial problems – the troubled person seeks comfort. Often enough with delicious roast pork and delicious chocolate truffles.

6. Occupational stress

No time for lunch. So quickly in between a sausage, a piece of cake or chocolate thrown in. Nothing half and nothing whole, you are not really full, but not hungry either. And you’re bound to lose track of how many grams of fat are in everything that is eaten “on the side”.

7. Operation/Accident

Double frustration: You are paralyzed and gain weight much faster, if only because of the lack of exercise. Understandable, if you then fight the anger about this with more unnecessary calories? There’s only bacon…

8. Menopause

Losing weight becomes more difficult the older you get. That’s because the body can get by with less food. In addition, the hormonal changes cause the fat deposits to grow. But: Here too, more exercise can help! Anyone who swallows oestrogens and may therefore gain weight: Sometimes it helps to switch to another product or to a herbal remedy.
