The tattoo artist Peter Zsoldos stings free tattoos for diabetics. In emergencies, the works of art can help doctors with the right treatment.
A blue circle, in it a “T1” or “T2” for the respective type, under it the writing “Diabetic” – ready is the possibly life-saving diabetic tattoo. The Hungarian Peter Zsoldos, who is a diabetic himself and has been wearing the tattoo for two and a half years, brought the idea to Germany. And that’s not all: The tattooist makes the small sign for diabetics in his studio “Rock Tattoo” in Landshut free of charge.
How can the tattoo save lives?
Diabetes patients can easily collapse in case of hyperglycaemia or hypoglycaemia. It is important that they are helped as quickly as possible. The problem: affected patients often appear to be drunk, especially when they have low blood sugar. They are confused, some babble. It can take some time before they actually receive the right treatment. The lifesaver tattoo can help here: When doctors and paramedics feel the patient’s pulse, they immediately see that diabetes is present and know if it is Type I or Type II.
Studio assistant Veronika Maturicz explained to “Bild.de” how this can improve the lives of those affected: “A man folded twice. Everyone thought he was just drunk. Both times he fell into a coma and had to learn to speak and walk again with great difficulty. Then he got a life-saving tattoo. The next time he went into diabetic shock, he got the right treatment within 15 minutes.”
Theoretically, people who are interested can come by spontaneously to get the tattoo. But on the Facebook page “RockTattoo Team” you can also book appointments if you don’t want to wait.
