Nutrition researchers have again this year examined the success probabilities of a total of 35 diets. These are the best diets in 2020!
Every year one of the most popular resolutions for the new year is to lose a few kilos. But in the confusing jungle of diets, it’s hard to find your way around. Reason enough for American nutritionists from “U.S.News” to compare the most popular diets year after year and to create a ranking of the best methods. There is also a hit list for the year 2020. We’ll tell you the top 3 – and which diet you’d better stay away from.
These are The Best Diets in 2020
1. Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean Diet is in first place in the ranking for the second time and is therefore, in the opinion of the experts, the best way to lose weight in the long term and in a healthy way. With the Mediterranean diet the focus is for example on healthy fats from fish and olive oil as well as fruit and vegetables. As far as meat is concerned, only low-fat poultry is on the menu, in addition there are nuts and pulses as well as wholesome types of bread. Fat-containing dairy products and desserts are avoided as far as possible. The Mediterranean Diet not only helps you lose weight in a healthy way, but also reduces the risk of diseases such as dementia, cancer and diabetes.
2. DASH Diet
Second in the ranking is the DASH diet (DASH = Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension), which was originally developed for hypertensive patients. The concept focuses on low-calorie foods such as lean meat, lean dairy and wholemeal products and a lot of fruit and vegetables. Instead, foods with a high cholesterol or salt content are avoided. Prepared meals, luxury foods such as alcohol and sweets are also avoided. This diet is not only ideal for a healthy blood pressure, but also for a long-term reduction.
3. Flexitarier Diet
The Flexitarier Diet focuses on the consumption of plant foods, animal products are largely avoided – but they are not prohibited. Vegetables and fruits, but also legumes and wholemeal products are on the menu. The proteins we urgently need are mainly taken in from plant products, and in addition the food used should be unprocessed. Finished products and sugar are avoided. According to the experts, diets not only help us lose weight, they also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.
And What Diets Should I Avoid?
But not all dietary concepts could convince the nutrition experts: The Keto diet and the Dukan diet came in last in the ranking:
Keto Diet
The keto diet is based on a lot of fat and almost completely dispenses with carbohydrates. This means that not only the classic types of bread and pasta are taboo, but also many types of fruit and vegetables. Instead, fish, meat, eggs and low-carbohydrate vegetables such as zucchini and cucumber are eaten. Science is debating whether this diet is really effective. Moreover, according to the experts, the permanent lack of carbohydrates causes symptoms such as headaches and fatigue.
Dukan Diet
In the Dukan diet, not only carbohydrates are a red rag, but also fat. The focus of the diet is on proteins, especially from animal products – meat lovers get their money’s worth. A total of 78 protein-containing foods and 28 types of vegetables are permitted, which can be combined with each other. Fish, lean meat and soya are permitted, for example, while fat and sugar in any form are prohibited. Critics have long criticised the Dukan diet: it is too one-sided, and there is a risk of vitamin deficiency, for example. And the high protein consumption can damage the kidneys.
In addition to the two concepts, the Paleo diet, the Atkins diet and the Raw Food diet, for example, also land at the bottom of the rankings and are therefore not suitable for healthy weight loss.
