Plucking eyebrows properly is easier than you think – the perfect shape can be quickly determined with a few tricks.
Eyebrows have become an increasingly important beauty trend, especially in recent years. Many people want a bushy eyebrow à la Cara Delevigne or Jessica Alba, because a well-formed eyebrow defines the face and gives it a certain expression. Nevertheless, it is anything but easy to turn a normally growing eyebrow into a real beautifully defined one. We will explain to you step by step how to get a wow eyebrow and what new methods are available to help you get a dream eyebrow.
This is what you need to pluck your eyebrows:
- Brushes
- Eyebrow Brush
- Tweezers
- Scissors
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Determine the course of the brow arch
To find out which shape suits you and your face shape, you should first have a look at your brow arch. What do the brows look like? Are they full or narrow? Do they have a dramatic curve, a bend or are they straight? Star make-up artist Bobbi Brown advises:
Use your natural eyebrow shape as a template. In the past, a lot of emphasis was placed on ‘reinventing’ the eyebrow, changing or contouring the face. Today, this artificial form is being abandoned. Naturally beautiful, perfectly defined eyebrows simply look great on any woman.
To get the eyebrows in a nice shape, you need a:
- thin brush,
- an eyebrow pencil,
- of course a tweezer with a flat, slanted tip and
- nail scissors.
Now use the brush to determine the course of the brow arch: First, place the brush vertically and completely straight on the outer nostril, so that it reaches over the inner corner of the eye to the brow. There you make a small stroke with a kajal or eyebrow pencil, because: The eyebrow should start here.
Now apply the brush a second time, but this time at an angle so that the brush points upwards from the nostril past the outer corner of the eye. Again, make a fine stroke – the brow should end at this point.
The highest point of the brow, the turning point, is determined by applying the brush once more, so that it lies against the outer wing of the nose and points upwards through the middle of the pupil. This point is also marked at the upper edge of the brow.
Step 2: The right preparation
For many women, plucking eyebrows is a very unpleasant business, as it can be quite painful. To minimize the burning sensation, always pluck after showering, when the pores are open. Tip: You should also always have an ice cube at hand, which you can rub over the eyebrows after plucking the hairs. This minimizes a nascent swelling.
- Tip 1: To check if the eyebrows need to be plucked equally on both sides, squint your eyes together and make forehead wrinkles. Now place the brush horizontally on the upper border of the eyebrows. Afterwards you pull the forehead in folds and the brows up and put the brush to the lower border.
- Tip 2: Before plucking, simply go over your eyebrows with your powder brush. The powder makes the surface of the hair more grippy. This makes it much easier to get hold of the fine hairs with the tweezers! This way you can really get every hair, no matter how fine it is.
Step 3: Now you can start plucking!
- If the shape is clear, brush the brows up the sides.
- Then remove small, protruding hairs at the root of the nose with the tweezers.
- Now pluck away the fine hairs below the brow arch.
- Brush eyebrows downwards and trim the protruding hairs with scissors.
- Then brush the eyebrows upwards and cut away hairs that are too long. Adjust both eyebrows until they are in harmony.
- Finally, comb the hairs in the direction of growth and bring them into shape with a little eyebrow powder or brow gel.
