Remove the old skin and replace it with smooth young skin. You can find out here whether microdermabrasion can do this and what is behind it.
Microdermabrasion: What is that?
- If you are looking for beauty treatments that are effective and yet do not require injections and the like, microdermabrasion is an attractive method.
- The procedure has been firmly established in the beauty industry for many years and is therefore by no means a short-term trend. Many stars swear by microdermabrasion.
- But how does it work anyway? It is a mechanical skin peeling, in which a vacuum compressed air system is used. The device has special grinding attachments with which the uppermost skin layer is removed. Dead skin cells and scales are consistently sucked in.
- The skin tissue lying under the uppermost skin layer produces new skin cells, elastin and collagen. Damaged tissue is thus repaired. The advantage: The skin regenerates faster and your complexion shines in a new splendour. In addition, make-up and care products can be absorbed very well into the new skin.
- By the way: The name microdermabrasion is composed of the three terms “small” (micro), “derma” (skin) and “brasion” (loops).
Variants of microdermabrasion
- With sand: Here fine sand abrasive particles are used, which create a strong vacuum by suction on the skin. In this way the skin scales can be easily removed.
- Diamond microdermabrasion: Here the tip of the device consists of small diamonds that act very gently and at the same time intensively on the uppermost layer of skin. The skin is then cleaned to remove the scales that were not removed by suction.
- With water: This method is also a very gentle treatment, in which a water jet and abrasive sponge are used to gently remove the scales. The suction effect is minimal here, so that the “remains” are removed manually.
Microdermabrasion for which areas?
The microdermabrasion is certainly the most known method for the treatment of the face. However, there are also often pigment disorders or other impurities on the body that may require application.
The following areas can be considered as zones to be treated:
- Cornified skin areas
- Pigment disorders
- Age spots
- Stretch marks/stretch marks
- Folds
- Unclean skin
- Tired skin
- Badly circulated skin
Advantages of microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular beauty treatments. In the USA it is also praised as “Oscar peeling” because it provides results in the shortest time. Even with a single application you will notice an immediate difference. By supporting the production of collagen and elastin, the skin is deeply tightened and receives a fresh treatment.
An overview of all advantages of the process:
- Gentle treatment
- Safe (no serious side effects)
- For almost every skin type
- Easy to use
- Radiant skin by ablation of the upper horny layer
Microdermabrasion: At home or in a salon?
- For many beauty treatments, for example teeth whitening, the question now arises whether to go to a specialist or to go on your own with the appropriate equipment. But while in many treatment fields professional treatment by a professional promises better results, this is not necessarily the case with microdermabrasion.
- This is mainly due to the fact that microdermabrasion is a very simple and safe method where little can go wrong. In addition, there are now many high-quality devices on the market that work just as cleanly as in a beauty salon.
- Costs also play an important role. In a beauty salon you can expect to spend between 100 and 200 euros per treatment. Good microdermabrasion devices, on the other hand, cost about 100 euros.
Microdermabrasion: Complementary products
- In addition to a suitable microdermabrasion device, you should also, if not available, purchase additional care products for optimal results. These include an effective SPF-50 sunscreen, which is an important protection for your skin after the treatment.
- A mild cleanser is also recommended so that you can cleanse your skin thoroughly and gently at the same time. With a vitamin C serum, you also give your skin an optimal dose of vitamins, which provide additional freshness and suppleness.
Microdermabrasion: Tips for use
- In practice you should have the treatment about once a month. In this interval the skin also renews itself (28 days). Depending on your skin type, a two-week application may also make sense, especially in the case of very horny skin.
- Those who prefer to treat at home with their own equipment can do this about once a week. However, always check the instructions for use from the respective provider. Those with less sensitive skin can even do the procedure twice a week.
- Regular application is recommended for lasting success. However, even a one-off treatment can bring about a short-term refreshment.
Microdermabrasion: Who is out of the question
First of all, people who find themselves in the treatment zones listed above come into question. Of course, the skin appearance can also be improved in general with the procedure and thus give your complexion new freshness.
But there are also a number of indicators that rule out treatment or at least make it appear less advisable:
- Severe acne
- Open wounds
- Herpes
- Warts
- Skin diseases such as rosacea or neurodermatitis
- Taking medication such as cortisone
Side effects of microdermabrasion
- You are taken with the possibilities of microdermabrasion, but you fear side effects? Then we have good news for you: no scientific studies have been able to find serious side effects in connection with the treatment.
- Immediately after the treatment, however, there may be slight redness or a feeling of dryness on the skin. However, these disappear after a few hours. If not, you should consult a dermatologist.
Microdermabrasion: After the treatment
Although there are usually no complications or side effects after the treatment, the new skin layer needs several days to fully function. This includes in particular its protective function. It is therefore advisable not to expose the skin to unnecessary stress tests.
- Avoid strong sunlight or use good sun creams with UVA and UVB filters
