A Buddha figure placed on the window sill does not yet make a meditation room! We will show you which tips and tricks will turn your room into a relaxation room.
Regular meditation helps us to reduce stress and relax. However, the basic requirement for this is a quiet place to meditate – and that makes it a no-go zone for troublemakers like smartphones, televisions and the like! What else you should look out for in a meditation room or meditation corner in your home is revealed here.
Setting up a meditation room – 8 tips
A separate room in the house exclusively for meditation does not have to be, of course, this is also possible when there is a quiet spot. If you have the space or can relax better in a separate room or corner, you should furnish and maintain this space accordingly – just as you already do for your mind.
Always keep basic rule number one in mind: Only what you feel comfortable with comes into your meditation room! Below you will find great suggestions for you.
1. Light
Bright light from the ceiling usually does not create an atmospheric ambience in which to relax. This can be remedied by fairy lights with warm white light, candles or small lamps with warm light, such as salt crystal lamps.
2. Seating
The meditation seat is difficult for many in the beginning. Meditation cushions or benches provide support. Meditation benches are available in different heights, so there is the right size for every body height. A meditation mat is also a good option, as it protects against a cold floor. These are available in different heights. A seat supports a comfortable posture even during longer meditations!
3. Music and sounds
Some people prefer absolute silence when meditating, others find it easier to relax with soft background music. Another option is an indoor fountain – if the splash of water relaxes you, it definitely belongs in your meditation room! A gong or singing bowls can be used to start and end the meditation.
4. Fragrances for the senses
Fragrances have an effect on us – no question. For meditation you can use incense sticks, a potpourri or essential oils. If the scent of certain flowers puts you into relaxation, a bouquet of them should not be missing.
5. Wall design
Does a particular picture or motif give you peace of mind? Then off with it on the wall! The eye meditates with – even if you often meditate with your eyes closed (or half-closed), the wall design contributes to a feeling of well-being. Choose a colour you feel comfortable with and you can come down, muted natural tones might be a good choice here. A colour distinction is especially useful if it is a meditation corner in another room.
6. Decoration
Decoration is allowed without a doubt and adds a personal feel-good touch to your room or corner. Regardless of whether:
- Candles,
- Fresh flowers or plants (e.g. lavender has a calming effect!),
- Buddha figures,
- Gems or a
- Zen garden.
7. Altar
Relaxing or for you spiritually important objects find place on an altar.
8. Yoga utensils
If you intend to practice yoga in your meditation room, get a non-slip yoga mat (preferably produced sustainably) and blocks, pads and yoga belts for your practice. With this you are perfectly equipped!
