The wall design in the children’s room stimulates the imagination of the little ones and creates an atmosphere of well-being. Whether with wall paint, wall stickers or borders – here we show you the best ideas for kids room wall design.
The children’s room is very important for the little ones: here they should feel safe and be able to develop. The wall design plays a decisive role here – it contributes significantly to the ambience of the room.
Wall design in the children’s room: What are the possibilities?
A beautiful wall design stimulates the child’s imagination and encourages creativity. The design should be appropriate for the child and age. Especially for the somewhat older children it is advisable to respond to their respective interests: If the child is interested in animals, a wall sticker with the favourite animal is a great idea. A dreamy fairy tale world, on the other hand, is created with an appropriate wallpaper and border. And under a starry sky it is guaranteed to dream itself even more beautiful!
In general, there are the following design options for the children’s room:
- Wallpapers and borders: With wallpapers and borders you can create your own worlds. For example, there are many wallpapers for children with suitable motifs and matching borders as an additional eye-catcher. Wallpapers for colouring can also be a creative design option for the little ones.
- Wall tattoos/ wall stickers: Here nature motifs, animals or figures from fairy tales and stories are suitable. A wall tattoo or wall sticker has the advantage of being easy to apply and remove. The acquisition is not expensive and already with a motive a new atmosphere can be breathed into the room.
- Wall decoration: child-friendly mobile, wall shelves in the shape of a tepee, rainbows, stars, garlands … here are unlimited possibilities to design the living space of the little ones especially.
- Colors: Cheerful and soft colours are always a good choice. With a plain background, a wall decoration can provide additional accents.
Important: Make sure that the sleeping area of the children’s room really radiates peace and quiet, while the play corner can be made a little more colorful.
The baby room
Friendly and discreet colors are well suited for babies. Pastel shades are a good example. Shrill colors, on the other hand, can be perceived as disturbing and make the baby uneasy. For wallpaper, too, you should use plain colors rather than small patterns: a detailed pattern cannot yet be processed by babies and is therefore irritating. You should be just as careful with a large wall tattoo or wall sticker, as large shapes can be frightening. An unobtrusive wall design and small decorative elements are therefore the better choice.
Getting creative with the child
Depending on their age, children can already participate in the wall design for their children’s room:
- Imaginative stencils can be cut out of a piece of cardboard. The motifs are then dabbed onto the wall with a little paint and a sponge. The child can help at every step – from cutting out the stencil to dabbing it on the wall – and is then guaranteed to be proud to have designed his or her own room.
- Board paint on the wall offers the child unlimited creative freedom: Here, the ABCs can be practiced, rhymes can be written down and small paintings can be realized. Boredom is guaranteed not to arise with a blackboard in the children’s room!
- Crafting is fun! With cardboard and string you can create colourful pennant chains that can be stretched all over the walls.
The best ideas
Blackboard paint can be used to paint individual walls, which give the child a great deal of design freedom.
You can easily make stencils for your wall from cardboard. You apply the paint with a sponge or a small paint roller.
If you dare to paint directly on the wall, you can create a fantasy world even with a few outlines.
Wall stickers can have a great effect and make the sleeping area of the baby room cosy.
