Jojoba oil is contained in many beauty products. But the natural oil can also be used pure for the care of skin and hair! Find out here what effect pure jojoba oil has and how to use it best.
Jojoba oil – what is it?
Strictly speaking, jojoba oil is not an oil, but a wax-like substance that is liquid at room temperature. Jojoba oil is obtained from the seeds of the jojoba bush, which grows in the deserts and semi-deserts of North America. To obtain the golden yellow jojoba wax, the ripe seeds are pressed.
Jojoba oil is a pure natural product. To be able to use the full power of nature, you should pay attention to organic quality – this way you make sure that there are no pesticides in the jojoba oil and that the environment and workers are not exposed to chemical agents.
Jojoba oil: Ingredients and shelf life
- Jojoba oil contains gadoleic acid, erucic acid, oleic acid, nervous acid and palmitic acid. It contains high concentrations of provitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin E.
- However, jojoba oil also contains a plant toxin called simmondsin, so the oil is not suitable for consumption.
- Jojoba oil keeps for years if stored in a dark place below 25° Celsius. Use a sealable, dark bottle!
Jojoba oil: Effect and application
Jojoba oil is suitable for skin and hair and as a natural product has many positive properties.
Jojoba oil for the skin
- Provitamin A (also known as beta carotene) helps the skin fend off bacteria and stay beautiful and healthy. Vitamin A, which is formed from provitamin A, is also important for cell renewal.
- Vitamin E stimulates collagen formation and thus ensures firm skin. It improves elasticity and has antioxidant properties, so that external influences are repelled.
- Vitamin B6 balances the sebum flow of the skin.
- In addition, the vegetable oil serves as a natural sun protection (sun protection factor 3 to 4), can bring relief from sunburn and helps to keep your tan longer.
- Thanks to its special composition, jojoba oil provides moisture without being greasy. Especially for dry and sensitive, itchy skin, the oil is a real blessing.
- The oil can also be used to reduce stretch marks, scars and calluses.
Application on the skin
The oil is ideally suited for daily skin care:
- As a moisturizer you can enrich a few drops of your day cream with the oil or you can use the jojoba oil directly on the skin: For this you should first moisten the skin with a facial toner and then massage the oil (max. 6 drops) onto it and let it absorb.
- As a make-up remover, massage a few drops of the plant oil into your skin and then cleanse your face with a cotton pad. Then wash your face thoroughly with a washcloth.
- To prevent stretch marks or to reduce existing ones, you should massage the oil into the skin regularly. Also in combination with almond oil it is an effective means of preventing stretch marks.
- Mix the jojoba oil with shea butter to use for neurodermatitis, psoriasis and milk crust.
- As a remedy against cornea, apply the jojoba oil directly to the affected areas.
- Also as massage oil the oil makes itself very well!
Attention: Jojoba oil must not be used on open wounds!
Jojoba oil for the hair
The liquid wax is ideal for hair care! With the application of jojoba oil you can:
- Fight itchy and flaky scalp
- Make your hair pleasantly soft and shiny
- Repair damaged and brittle hair
- Regulate sebum production on the scalp
Your hair is not even weighed down: the oil penetrates the hair structure and cares from the inside!
Application in hair
The oil can be used as hair care or scalp mask:
- For a scalp mask, the jojoba oil is warmed (preferably in a water bath) and then massaged into the scalp. After a 20-minute application period, wash your hair as normal. Caution: If you have oily hair, you should not use the scalp mask too often, otherwise your hair will become greasy more quickly.
- For hair care, you also need to heat a few tablespoons of the oil and then distribute it evenly throughout the hair. Pour plenty of oil into brittle tips, as these need a lot of care. Afterwards the hair conditioner must be left to soak in for 30 minutes. Rinse your hair thoroughly afterwards.
- The oil can also be massaged in after washing and thus provides a beautiful shine. To do this, dry your hair roughly with a towel after washing and distribute a few drops of the oil evenly in the hair. Your hair will then be pleasantly smooth!
Besides jojoba oil there are several other natural products that are beneficial for skin and hair. Here we explain the effects of orange blossom water and rosehip oil.
