Determining eyebrow shape

Before it comes to plucking and styling your personal wow eyebrows, it is first necessary to find the ideal eyebrow shape – and this varies depending on the shape of your face. This is done by determining the beginning of the eyebrows, the highest and the end point, so that each arch is individual and fits the face perfectly.

That’s how it’s done

  1. Place a pencil on the nostril and the inner corner of the eye, where the pencil and hair meet, the brow begins.
  2. Now place the pin from the nostril diagonally over the pupil. Extend the line. This spot marks the highest point.
  3. For the brow end, move the pencil along the outer corner of the eye.

If you are unsure, let a beautician trim your eyebrows at the beginning.

Eyebrow trimming – The right techniques

If you want to get your hair in perfect shape, you are spoilt for choice between different techniques and tools.

  • Cutting
  • Shaving
  • Plucking
  • Cosmetic trimmer

For shortening longer hair, scissors are suitable. If you have many fine hairs, it is best to use a razor. The tweezers do the fine tuning and remove coarse hairs and “outliers”. We present four methods to trim your eyebrows.

1. Trimming eyebrows with scissors

Brows can be shortened and shaped particularly precisely using scissors.

You need that for it:

  • Scissors
  • Eyebrow comb or mascara brush
  • Cosmetic mirror with magnifying function and daylight

Trimming eyebrows with the scissors in three steps

  1. Remove make-up residue from the eyebrows and brush the hair upwards with a comb or brush in the direction of growth.
  2. Trim protruding hairs along the eyebrow line starting at the inner eyebrow margin. If you like, you can trim the protruding hairs at the base of the comb.
  3. Finally, comb the hairs downwards with a comb or brush in the direction of growth and repeat all steps. Important: It is better to take several small steps in order not to remove too much hair.

2. Trimming eyebrows with the razor

Trimming eyebrows with a razor is particularly uncomplicated and painless compared to plucking. However, the hair grows back faster after shaving.

You need that for it:

  • Special eyebrow shaver from the drugstore
  • Eyebrow comb/mascara brush
  • Cosmetic mirror

Instructions

  1. First apply a little Vaseline to the area around the brows. This makes the blade glide more easily over the skin.
  2. Then comb the hairs in growth direction.
  3. Now tighten the skin with thumb and index finger and remove the desired hairs slowly and carefully with the razor.

3. Trimming eyebrows with the tweezers

Trimming eyebrows with tweezers is one of the most common methods. If done correctly, the hairs are removed together with the root. The result lasts up to four weeks.

You need that for it:

  • Tweezers with slanted end: Otherwise the hairs cannot be gripped properly or may even break off.
  • Eyebrow or mascara brushes
  • Cosmetic mirror

Instructions

  1. Cool the area and eyebrows with an ice cube. This makes them less sensitive to pain.
  2. Tighten the skin slightly between two fingers and pluck out the hairs in the direction of growth. Please pluck only at the lower edge of the eyebrows!
  3. Finally, brush the brows into shape and fix with gel.

4. Trimming eyebrows with a cosmetic trimmer

A cosmetic trimmer is the must-have in the cosmetic bag and is primarily suitable for particularly bushy eyebrows. Here there are special devices that are used exclusively for the face. Thanks to the comb attachment, the hair is slightly lifted and the result is more exact than with scissors.

You need that for it:

  • Cosmetic trimmer
  • Eyebrow comb or brush
  • Eyebrow pencil
  • Magnifying mirror

That’s how it works:

  1. Cleanse eyebrows first.
  2. Then mark the shape in advance with an eyebrow pencil.
  3. Now comb the hairs in the direction of growth and move the trimmer carefully along above the eyebrows.
