Shellac guarantees a perfect manicure that lasts a long time: Disadvantage: Getting the polish off the nails. We have the best tips on how you can remove shellac.
Who does not know the problem? No sooner have your nails been freshly painted than you accidentally bump your fingers into something and get annoyed about flaws in the nail polish. With Shellac, paint disasters are a thing of the past. The innovative nail polish dries within seconds under a UV lamp, is scratch-resistant, holds securely and is guaranteed to survive several weeks of beach vacation even on your feet. The only flaw: as good as Shellac is, it is difficult to remove. Conventional nail polish remover is unfortunately not enough. But a visit to the nail studio is not necessarily necessary – and costs only time and money. We will explain to you how Shellac can be easily removed at home in just a few minutes.
Removing shellac: This is what you need
- Nail polish remover with acetone
- Aluminium foil
- Cotton pads
- Rosewood sticks
- Nail file
- Nail care, for example coconut oil or argan oil
How to remove Shellac
- First you rub your cuticles with oil. This protects against the acetone.
- Next, the cotton pads are soaked in nail polish containing acetone and placed on the nails.
- In order for the acetone to bond optimally with the Shellac, the absorbent cotton pads are fixed with aluminum foil. Prepare ten strips of aluminum foil and wrap one strip each around the pad and fingernail.
- Let the acetone take effect for about ten minutes. After that you can scrape the shellac from the nail with a rosewood stick. If the nail polish cannot be removed completely, you have either used too little acetone or left the nail polish remover too short.
You should consider this
In the nail salon, the nail polish is removed from the nail using a complex special remover containing acetone, or it is sanded off with an electric nail arrow. This makes the fingernails thin and brittle in the long run. But if you want to remove Shellac at home, you can’t avoid using acetone here either. The gel can only be completely removed with the solvent. The disadvantage is that the nail and cuticle are stressed. So treat your nails to regular breaks with lacquer and intensive care with hand cream and nail care. Here we also explain how you can do a manicure yourself.
