How to Dye Your Own Eyelashes at Home

You wish for long, dark lashes instead of sparse, thin hairs? Eyelash tinting makes it possible. We explain how it works.

Now grind honestly: Who would not like to have naturally full, voluminous and long lashes without using mascara or an eyelash serum every morning? Even an eyelash extension is not immediately a must. Tip: Dye your eyelashes! This not only saves you the daily removal of make-up, but also a lot of valuable time that you can use for a coffee in the morning. The results last four to six weeks. For eyelash tinting you can either go to the beautician or simply do it yourself at home. What you need and what you have to pay attention to when tinting eyelashes, we explain here.

Eyelash tinting – what you need

  • Eyelash tint
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Absorbent cotton pads
  • Cotton swabs
  • Grease cream
  • About 30 minutes time

Eyelash tinting: Do-it-yourself in six steps

  1. Before applying the eyelash tint, thoroughly remove make-up from the eyes and eyelashes and degrease eyelids and eyelash hairs. This works particularly easily with a absorbent cotton pad and a little saline solution.
  2. Next, apply oily cream to the skin under the eyes. Please make sure that no cream gets on the eyelashes, otherwise the eyelash color cannot stick to the hairs.
  3. Carefully place the pads supplied in the eyelash tinting set under the eyes and as close as possible to the lower lash line.
  4. Now dip a cotton swab into the developer solution and apply to the upper and lower lashes.
  5. Now apply the color to the lashes with a new cotton swab. Alternatively use the enclosed eyelash comb and apply like a mascara until the color is well distributed. Start at the lash line and apply the color up to the tips.
  6. Now let the color take effect according to the package instructions (three to five minutes). Then remove the eyelash tint with a damp absorbent cotton pad. Keep your eyes closed to prevent the color from getting into your eyes. Now you can be happy about dark, long lashes!

Eyelash Tinting: Tips & tricks

  • Brown or black eyelash tint? Which eyelash color suits you best depends on your type. You are the dark type by nature with dark hair and eyebrows? Great! Then you can dye your eyelashes black. Lighter skin types use brown eyelash tint, which looks more natural.
  • Never use normal hair color. This is much too aggressive and can cause severe irritation of the eyes.
  • If the eyelash tint burns in the eyes or on the skin, remove the coloration cream immediately with absorbent cotton pads, rinse the eye area with plenty of clear water and apply a soothing eye gel.
  • It is especially easy to tint your eyelashes if you have a friend help you. Otherwise, just tint one eye first, then the other.
  • An eyelash curler provides for the special curl of the lashes. If you like, you can mascara your eyelashes.
