“When should I start solid food first” is one of the most frequently asked questions. You need to introduce solid food to your baby after the 6th month. You should only breastfeed your baby until the 6th month. If you think that breast milk is not enough, you should consider it with your doctor. You should definitely not start solids early.
When your baby is 6 months old, the main meal should still be breast milk. In case of deficiency or insufficiency, you can use follow-on milk with the advice of your doctor. Keep in mind that this is the period when your baby is introduced to solid foods. Solid foods should remain as a snack until the age of 1, while breast milk should be the main meal.
When your baby is 6 months old, you can give solid foods as tasting as 1-2 teaspoons at first. Starting out heavily on solid foods can negatively affect your baby’s breast milk intake. Try a little new food for 3-4 days during the day, so you can see if there is an allergic or digestive problem. The amount of supplementary foods should be as much as 2 small baby jars for meals between 6 and 8 months. One baby jar is about 125 ml. For the remaining meals, breast milk or follow-on milk should be given.
If the baby is not allergic, the order of starting additional foods; vegetable, fruit, yogurt and cereal-based custard. You can choose vegetables and fruits according to the season. You can start with potatoes, zucchini, apples and pears.
9th month and After Baby Food
Between 6 and 8 months, we give your baby 2 small jars of solid food at snacks and continue to provide breast milk for their main meals. When your baby comes to the 9th month, the main meal is still breast milk. But now your baby will be more accustomed to solid food. For this you can increase the amount of solids slightly. To the solids you give as 2 tiny baby jars between 6-8 months, 9. by adding 1 jar more per month, you can give up to 3 baby jars in total. However, the amount of solid food you give at each meal should not exceed 1 small baby jar. Remember, a baby jar is about 125 ml.
During this period, you can give your baby breakfast, soups prepared with vegetables, legumes, cereal-based puddles and yoghurt as an solid food. It is important to include meat and fish in the menu. You are in a period when your baby can receive many solid foods for feeding, but you should be careful about the amount. It is best to set up a nutrition scheme for your baby with your doctor.
Please note that breast milk is the basic food for your baby up to 1 year. Breastmilk should be taken in the main meals and solid foods should be as much as 3 baby jars during the day.
