Brushing until the toothbrush is frayed in the cup? How often should we really change the toothbrush? We will answer that question for you.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day and additionally floss the spaces between the teeth. Done! Thanks to the penetrating education of our parents (and our dentist) we know what good oral hygiene is all about. But have they ever really told us how often we should change our toothbrush ?
One look at the little friend and helper is enough to deny this with a shake of the head. One of the brushes stands pale and dull in the cup. The next one has its bristles hanging frayed to the side like old tulips in a vase.
The right time
If the bristles of the toothbrush tilt to the sides in a frayed way, it is high time to change the brush. Then it does not brush properly, the teeth do not get clean properly and there is no effective protection against plaque and caries.
That’s why dentists recommend: change your toothbrush every three months, unless you notice that your toothbrush turns into hanging tulip heads. In that case you should change it earlier. This also applies to all fans of the electric toothbrush!
No fear of bacteria on the toothbrush!
Good news also for those who are afraid of bacteria on their toothbrush. Mouth bacteria do not survive in a dry environment. This means: After brushing your teeth, clean your toothbrush under running water. That’s enough. When the toothbrush is air-dried, the bacteria are also killed. No further sterilisation is necessary.
The following video shows you how to brush your teeth properly so that your new toothbrush will survive the three months.
