Home Remedy Against Flies: How to Get Rid of The Pests

They are annoying and can transmit bacteria. But there are effective household remedies against flies.

Even if they do not sting – flies are annoying. They also act as carriers of bacteria when they land on a pile of excrement in our food after a stopover. Nevertheless, we do not have to resort to the chemical club to get rid of them. With a range of household remedies we can drive away the pests. One plant in particular is particularly good at keeping flies at bay.

Home remedy against flies: Preventing the fly plague

To avoid attracting flies and other insects unnecessarily, you should take a few preventive measures.

  • Wipe the table and dishes immediately after eating. You should also clean the shelves from crumbs and food remains to avoid attracting flies.
  • Cover the fruit bowl. This attracts especially the small annoying fruit flies or fruit flies. They lay their eggs in the shell of overripe fruit. But don’t worry! This is how you get rid of them quickly: get rid of fruit flies.
  • Empty the trash can regularly and keep the lid closed. Domestic waste is also a romping place for insects, especially houseflies and fruit flies.
  • Do not leave windows and doors open or cover them with an insect screen.

Home remedy against flies: Distribute

  • Laurel oil: Flies hate the smell of laurel. Just put a few drops of laurel oil mixed with water into a fragrance lamp. You can also soak a cloth in the oil and put it in the window to keep away houseflies. An infusion of laurel leaves is perfect as a natural mosquito spray. Simply pour the household remedy into a spray bottle and spray it onto rubbish bins, fruit bowls and other playgrounds.
  • Cloves: Cloves are also an effective household remedy against flies. Here you can again dribble the oil into scented lamps, soak cloths with it or get creative. A lemon cut in half and decorated with cloves makes a nice decoration for your home and garden that flies will hate.
  • Eucalyptus: With eucalyptus oil you can proceed in the same way as with laurel and clove oil. The strong smell of eucalyptus is very deterrent to houseflies.
  • Chayenne pepper or chili: Dissolve the powder in warm water, put the mixture in a bowl and put it in the places you want to keep fly-free. This household remedy is also suitable as a room spray. By the way, pepper water also helps against maggots in the garbage can.
  • Tomato plants: The perfect solution for outdoors. Plant your terrace and balcony with tomato plants. The smell is a deterrent to the buzzing beasts. You have your peace and quiet and even fresh tomatoes for the salad.
  • Matches: If hordes of small flies are swarming around your houseplants, you should act quickly. The so-called funeral flies lay their eggs in the potting soil and their larvae feed on the roots of your plants. Stick some matches upside down in the potting soil. The sulphur in the water spreads through the soil and kills the larvae.

Home remedy against flies: Flying traps

Flypaper

Fly paper is one of the most common fly traps. You can easily make the flypaper yourself. Pour 750 ml sunflower oil into a pot. Add a few spoons of honey and 100 grams of resin and heat the mixture until the resin is really sticky. Cut baking paper into strips, dip it in, let it cool and dry – and the flytrap is ready.

Carnivorous plants

They are an eye-catcher and the perfect flypaper. All you have to do is water them occasionally. A carnivorous plant is probably the least complicated natural flytrap.
