Want a foot tattoo? Let’s do it. Here you can find the most important information and some nice inspirations.
Feet tend to be under the radar when it comes to beautification. Sure, we go in for a pedicure, groom them and do our nails. But very few people want to have “feet like Kim Kardashian”, for example, or answer the question “What do you like best or least about your body?” with “my right foot!
Feet are just the way they are – or were! It has long become fashionable to make them a little more beautiful, and to do so according to your personal taste: with a tattoo on your foot!
Foot Tattoo: Inspirations
Before we start explaining the pros and cons of foot tattoos, we have five inspirations for you – but don’t worry: there’s more below!
Foot tattoo: What are the reasons for this?
This is a clear advantage, which plays an important role for many people with a foot tattoo: No one ever has to know about it! Feet are super easy to hide, most of the time we spend among people, they are covered by socks, tights and shoes anyway. When we show them in summer and a tattoo appears, it doesn’t catch everybody’s eye (who looks at other people’s feet?) and usually triggers a positive surprise effect when someone notices it.
A second big advantage of a foot tattoo is that we can look at it ourselves at any time and be happy about it without having to stretch ourselves – unlike, for example, tattoos on the back or back of the thighs. All advantages of a foot tattoo at a glance:
- easy to hide
- clearly visible for the wearer
- turns an inconspicuous body part into an eye-catcher
- private and personal
- discreet, but surprising
Foot tattoo: What’s wrong with that?
It is not for nothing that it took a while before foot tattoos became established as a trend, because the spot at the bottom of our body has two major disadvantages:
- Tattooing on the foot hurts comparatively bad
- Foot tattoos fade relatively quickly/the lines distort
Especially the second point is the reason why only a few years ago many tattooists rather advised against a tattoo on the foot. Nowadays we don’t have to search very long to find someone who will tattoo our feet. But in order to keep the mentioned, undesired effect as small as possible, you should (as with every tattoo) absolutely turn to a professional! She (or he) can recommend the most suitable colours, advise you on the choice of motif and inform you about possible re-stitching procedures, which will probably come to you after a while.
Well, as for pain… after all our feet are very small body parts, so tattooing and therefore the pain can’t last that long. Furthermore, it depends strongly on the motive how bad the session really gets (see below). With one-dimensional motives, which consist only of lines, it is usually much easier to bite your teeth together briefly than with two-dimensional tattoos with color and shading.
Pro-tip: Just be prepared for the most terrible pain of your life, then it’s guaranteed to be less bad than expected! 😉
Foot tattoo: Directly after the pricking
In terms of maintenance a fresh foot tattoo hardly differs from tattoos at other places. On the day directly after your appointment your foot – if your motive is very flat – can swell strongly, but this should already subside clearly on the day after next. Just follow the care recommendations given to you by your tattoo artist and adjust to fashion restrictions for a week – because there is no way around comfortable, loose-fitting shoes!
Foot tattoo: Even more inspiration
Still want a foot tattoo? So we do! There is only one question left: What kind of motive, which colors and where exactly?
