Fighting Bags Under The Eyes: You Have to Know That
Bags under the eyes and pronounced dark circles are a no-go for many women. We reveal if and how to get rid of them, what causes them and which make-up is advisable.
Why do you get bags under your eyes? The causes
Whether swelling or dark circles under the eyes: You can quickly see an unhealthy lifestyle. But swollen eyes are often short-lived and can be quickly combated.
With real bags under the eyes, the treatment is usually not quite so simple. Lachrymal sacs are often a sign of old age caused by too little sleep, stress, alcohol and cigarettes. Fat accumulates under the eye when the lymph flow goes out of its normal rhythm. The result: the lower eye area swells. The bad news straight away: the older you get, the more the little pads swell up. The reason for this is actually quite simple: as you get older, connective tissue and muscles become worn out.
Preventing bags under the eyes – That’s it
If you want to prevent bags under the eyes, it is best to avoid all the things that can cause them. Of course, we cannot prevent aging and we don’t want to. But if you avoid excessive alcohol consumption and cigarettes, you can significantly delay the development of lachrymal sacs. Special skin care is also beneficial. The skin around the eye area is very thin and therefore more susceptible to environmental influences. It is therefore optimal to protect it from drying out. Regularly applying cream makes the skin elastic and provides it with the necessary moisture. It also makes sense to drink enough and to eat a balanced, low-salt diet.
Removing bags under the eyes: What are the options?
Especially for bags under the eyes, there are now many creams on the market that promise healing. These can also fight the pads superficially – but only for a short time. If you want to see long-lasting effects and get rid of the bags under your eyes completely, there is only one surgical procedure left. The doctor will make a small incision in the lower eyelid, remove the fat that has accumulated and tighten the skin and muscles again. A visible scar should not be visible at the end.
If the bags under the eyes are not as pronounced, laser treatment is often sufficient. If you are considering an operation, you should always seek professional advice from your doctor. As with any operation, complications such as wound healing disorders, infections or scarring can occur. That is why you should always consider this operation carefully.
Bags under the eyes soften: These are the best home remedies
As already explained, bags under the eyes can only be completely removed by surgery. Nevertheless, there are some home remedies that provide relief for swollen eyes:
- Cold coffee pods: What sounds a bit strange actually helps to reduce swelling. Simply place coffee pods that have already been used in the refrigerator. Once they are sufficiently cooled, place them on closed eyes for eight to twelve minutes. The cold coffee will stimulate the blood circulation and tighten the skin.
- Tea bags: This method works the same way as the one with the coffee pads. Place two used tea bags (preferably green or black tea) in the refrigerator and let them cool down. Then place them both on your closed eyes for about ten minutes and let them work.
- Sports units: Various sporting activities can prevent water retention in the tissue and thus prevent bags under the eyes. These include rope skipping or units on an indoor trampoline.
- Quark mask: Put two teaspoons of quark on the tear sacs and let it work. This cools the swollen eye area. If you like, you can add some honey to the curd. This has an antiseptic effect. But be careful: Make sure that none of the honey curd mask gets into the eye.
Make-up: This is what you should pay attention to with bags under your eyes
If you want to conceal your dark circles with make-up, there are a few things you should consider. Especially important is the choice of concealer. It is usually recommended to choose a shade lighter than the normal skin tone. In the case of bags under the eyes, on the other hand, the colour tone should exactly reflect the normal skin tone. If you choose a tone that is too light or if you focus on illuminating effects, the bags under the eyes will otherwise become even more prominent.
In addition, we recommend using make-up techniques that visually enlarge the eye. The banana technique is best suited here. For this, prime the entire movable eyelid with a light eye shadow. Then choose a darker tone (for example a brown tone) for the eyelid crease and blend it out to the sides. Done!
You should avoid make-up techniques that optically reduce the size of the eye. These include kajal on the lower lash line, too much mascara and powder. The latter settles in small wrinkles and emphasizes them. In general, less make-up is more in this case.
