Short hair without cutting? No problem with the Faux Bob. The celebrities show us how it’s done – and we’ll tell you how it’s done!
Faux Bob: Duchess Kate
Was the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge trying out a new hairstyle here? At the Remembrance Sunday Service, Kate paid her respects to fallen soldiers and appeared elegantly dressed (unfortunately, there was no sign of the baby’s belly) and with a new hairstyle. Only at second glance did it become apparent that the new bob was fake and the hair was only skilfully tucked in here. She combined an elegant black hat with a heart-shaped bow.
The hairstyle suits her, we think. Maybe we’ll see her with really short hair at the next public appearance. We would be for it anyway!
Zoe Saldana
Looks deceptively real, but is “only” a Faux Bob: The long hair of Zoe Saldana was combed over a side parting, curled in the neck and pinned.
Claire Danes
Claire Danes is the best example of how deceptively real a Faux Bob can look. When she walked down the red carpet at the Emmy Awards a year ago, the comments on Twitter rolled over. In an interview, however, the actress quickly put the misunderstanding right.
That’s the way to do it: Claire Danes owes her Faux Bob to hair stylist Peter Butler. He later revealed how he created this work of art. First, mousse and a hair serum against frizz were worked into the still wet hair. After blow-drying, a deep side parting was drawn and the hair was divided into two halves. These two strands were then twisted into snails and clamped high up on the neck. Hair and shine spray then provided hold and shine.
Emma Stone
Normally Emma Stone loves her red mane. But here she proves that blonde suits her at least as well – and a faux bob anyway. For this, the hair was laid in waves with the help of mousse and curling spray and fixed at the sides. Individually plucked out strands of hair create a cool casual look that still looks glamorous. Now put on red lipstick and rehearse Emma’s drama look – and off you go on the red carpet!
Amber Heard
It is not yet known what hairstyle Amber Heard wore at her wedding to Johnny Depp in early February. The faux bob in the Undone look suits her in any case – and would certainly be a nice break in style with her wedding dress.
Emma Watson
Emma Watson is also a fan of the smooth Faux Bob. To burgundy lips a pretty glamorous mixture.
Leelee Sobieski
Leelee Sobieski is clearly a bob fan. She usually wears her bob chin-length, but the shorter faux bob with a wet look looks great on her too.
Marion Cotillard
Marion Cotillard was also a member of the (faux) bob team.
This is how it works: Apply a little mousse to towel-dried hair, then blow dry completely. Use the curling iron to twist up each individual strand. Depending on the desired curl size, separate thinner or thicker strands. Then the hair at the nape of the neck is tied back in a low ponytail. Depending on how long the future faux bob should be, the hair elastic is set higher or lower. Fold in the end of the braid and secure with bobby pins. To make the hairstyle last longer, mist with hairspray.
Leighton Meester
Smooth and glamorous? Of course it works, as the styling of Leighton Meester shows us. With straight hair, the easiest way is not to include the fringe strands in the braid in the first place, but to separate them beforehand. If individual strands come loose, as here at the back of the head, it is best to fold them in individually and fix them with a hairpin. A few clips are a must for this styling.
Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes also has two reasons to be happy: on the one hand, we are happy that she has not parted with her magnificent mane; on the other hand, we would like to thank the faux bob for its existence. Otherwise we might never have seen the actress with this lovely hairstyle.
Rosario Dawson
And thanks again: We also really like the faux bob with soft waves at Rosario Dawson.
Mila Kunis
One number longer and with very slight waves in the ends, we saw Mila Kunis on the red carpet – and were thrilled.
Kate Beckinsale
Same stylist? Kate Beckinsale also relies on the variant with a center parting, straight hair and soft waves in the tips. The removed, longer pony strands are a nice twist to the elegant overall look.
Kim Catrall
With a light outer shaft, Kim Catrall carries her faux bob with her usual self-confidence.
Minnie Driver
Minnie Driver would look amazing on a bob. Unfortunately, this one only stays for one evening.
Elizabeth Banks
We discovered one of the most casual faux bobs on Elizabeth Banks. Her hair is usually only a little bit longer – that’s why the plucked out highlights work especially well.
Tyra Banks
Tyra Banks’ faux bob was properly topped off before the lengths were taken. But we are not quite sure if this faux bob was styled with her own hair. The hairline at least suggests a wig.
