No more lip liner and lipstick thanks to permanent make-up for the lips! We answer the most important questions.
Just get up in the morning and look freshly made up, without spending hours in the bathroom in front of the mirror with make-up, brushes and the like – a dream that permanent make-up makes come true. Here are the most important answers to questions about permanent make-up for the lips.
Permanent Make-up: What is that?
Permanent make-up means a cosmetic tattoo on the face. Compared to a “normal” tattoo, permanent make-up involves the application of color pigments into the epidermis with a fine needle. Here, colors are used that do not bear any toxic or allergic risks.
With permanent makeup, certain contours of the face can be emphasized:
- Wafer-thin eyeliner on the upper or lower lash line
- Thickening of the eyebrows (microblading)
- Emphasizing the lip contours and natural lip color
Permanent makeup lips: What for?
A pigmentation of the lips serves the:
- Lip contouring: Embellishment of the lip contour, e.g. for pale and colorless lips or to compensate for differences in proportion between the upper and lower lip.
- Lip modeling (partial shading): Color pigments are used to shade narrow lips so that they appear fuller.
- Refreshing lip color (full shading): Pale or colorless lips are accentuated by pigmentation in such a way that lipstick is no longer required.
Important: The contour color should match the natural lip color exactly.
Permanent make-up lips: How does it work?
First the lips are numbed with a special ointment. Then the new contour is drawn with a pen or a fine brush. Only then is the color applied to the epidermis with a fine, rotating disposable needle of 0.8 to 1.4 millimeters. The treatment is completed after about one hour.
Permanent make-up lips: Does the treatment hurt?
The procedure on the lips is noticeable but not painful, as a special anesthetic ointment is applied to the areas to be treated. The treatment is comparable to pricking and scratching. Slight redness and swelling are possible, which should be cooled after the treatment and will subside later. Possible crusts should never be scraped off and should be treated with a wound ointment.
You should know this before the treatment
Before the permanent make-up it is important to prepare yourself similarly to a visit to the doctor. You should pay attention to these points:
- Do not consume alcohol.
- Avoid blood-thinning medication (aspirin).
- Do not take penicillin-containing medication or antibiotics.
- If you have an infectious disease or lip herpes, the treatment cannot be carried out.
- Do not expose the skin and especially the face to direct sunlight for a few days before the treatment.
What you should consider after the treatment
To avoid irritation, please avoid sun, solarium, saunas, steam baths, high temperatures and contact with chlorine water for at least one week. Tip: Lip modelling should therefore not necessarily be carried out before the vacation.
In order for the skin to regenerate properly and remain beautifully supple, treat the affected areas with wound and healing ointment. Best applied with disposable gloves or with a cotton swab.
How long does the result last?
The durability of permanent make-up is limited in time because the color pigments do not penetrate so deeply into the skin. Depending on the skin type, permanent make-up lasts two to five years before it gradually fades. UV rays in particular can lighten pigmentation more quickly. Therefore it is essential to use lip care with UV protection (SPF 50)! Refreshing the color is possible at any time.
Can the color be removed again?
The result is not satisfactory? Darker colors can be balanced with lighter nuances. Unsightly contours can be painted over or adjusted. Permanent make-up can also be removed completely, for example by using an acidic solution, which, however, attacks the sensitive skin of the lips. Removal is therefore always associated with risks.
What does the procedure cost?
The price for a permanent make-up varies and depends on various factors:
- Scope of treatment
- Quantity of paint
A permanent make-up for the lips starts at around 350 USD. Important: The treatment must be carried out by a professional in a qualified studio. Cheap prices only point to botch-ups.
