Candles for the ears? You’re wondering: What can I use them for my ear and what do I do? We give you tips on how to use ear candles.
Ear candles application: Background
According to stories, ear candles were already used by Indian tribes to treat the ear.
The candle for the ear is about 20 to 30 cm long and consists of a hollow tube, which is often decomposed with beeswax, but sometimes also with oils or medicinal plants.
Various diseases can be treated with ear candles:
- Cleaning of the ears
- Sniffles
- Ear noises (tinnitus)
- Migraine
- Stress and overactivity
- Hearing loss
Important: If there is a perforated eardrum or a hole in the eardrum, do not use ear candles on the ear.
Preparation
- Even if you do not use ear candles for relaxation, make sure you create a pleasant atmosphere before using them.
- Close the windows, listen to soothing music and close your eyes during the application.
- Lie comfortably on your side and rest your head on a pillow.
4 easy steps!
- Light it up: The accompanying person lights the candle and puts the other end on the outside of the ear canal. Do not exert too much pressure and make sure that the end seals well at the sides.
- Hold on: Ear candles are held by your companion all the time, who also takes care that no wax drips or hairs come near the candle when it burns down.
- Burning: Ear candles don’t go out by themselves. Make sure that you remove the candle about 1 cm before the safety mark and extinguish it in water.
- Cleaning: Always treat both ears one after the other with the Earcandle and then clean your ear canal including the ear hairs.
Effect
- After lighting the ear candle, an overpressure is formed in the ear, which manifests itself in a downward airflow. After half of the burning time, the draft changes to the top and pressure is released.
- The external auditory canal is affected by the burning of the candle.
- By changing the pressure direction, the blood circulation can be stimulated. The negative pressure is intended to remove earwax.
- Medically the effects of ear candles are controversial. Doctors point out that the treatment could also cause damage to the ear or face, for example due to burns or constipation. Never carry out the treatment alone.
Postprocessing
- Take some time to rest even after the application.
- Always keep your Earcandles cool and dry.
- Do you often clean your ear with cotton swabs? We will show you why this is not recommended.
