Cellulite massage: What the Tunia Technique can do

There are the most adventurous strategies for combating stubborn flab on the legs: Hit the thighs with wet towels. Wrap, prick, roll, energize. Or shake your limbs until the cellulite starts to thin on its own. Dermatologists usually don’t have much to say about the dent disaster – the skin structure is to blame. Point.

Are we really powerless with orange peel skin?

The connective tissue is an extremely flexible matter. Its supports of collagen and elastic fibers are extremely stretchy so that they can yield properly during pregnancy. Generally speaking, in men, the fibers, which are superimposed like a net, are more tightly bound together and therefore do not offer as much room for maneuver. Female flexibility is mercilessly exploited by fat cells, which push themselves between the gaps. As soon as they spread there, they can push their way through the skin and even impede blood and lymph flow. If the removal no longer functions properly, everything gets worse.

This is how the cellulite massage from China works

A special massage technique from ancient China activates the metabolism and helps against cellulite.

Tuina massage (tui = push, na = grasp) is one of the pillars of Chinese medicine and is traditionally used for relaxation and pain relief. In “Chinese” it means: harmonizing the flow of energies in the body and removing possible disturbances or blockages. But the Asian kneading cure can do even more: the massage helps with orange peel and sagging skin. Because it sets the metabolism in motion, removes water retention and tightens the tissue.

The cellulite massage takes important acupuncture points into account and works with different techniques such as kneading, stroking, pinching or pressing. Let the tuina massage become your daily ritual, morning or evening – and after just four weeks you will notice improvements in thighs, bottom and belly. How you can strengthen your connective tissue, we tell you in 10 tips.

Massage: This is the special Chinese technique Step 1. Roll, forward!

It starts with “finger rolling on the thigh”: make a loose fist, put on the end and middle links of the fingers and roll over the knuckles. Work on the front, outside and inside of the thighs relatively quickly. And so long until a feeling of warmth arises. This stimulates the “flow of energy”. This massage also improves skin hydration. If you like, you can also use a skin oil, preferably sesame oil.

Step 2: Against swelling

“Straight-line rubbing” is the name of a particularly pleasant massage grip: simply place your flat hand or the ball of your thumb with gentle pressure on the thigh and stroke away from the body in a flowing movement – at the front, sides, back. As often as possible per minute, alternately with both hands. For a few minutes per leg. This reduces swelling, stimulates skin and tissue, and supports the metabolism.

Step 3: Tighten the tissue

Grasp a bulge of skin with the thumb and several fingers, lift it off, pull it away slightly and let it “bounce back”. With initially moderate, then stronger force until everything feels nice and warm. If it hurts, do not stop, but continue a little more gently. Start at the thigh and work up to the calves – for 1 to 2 minutes per region. That way, congestion caused by walking, standing or sitting too much or too little will disappear.

Step 4: For strong joints

This grip is used while sitting: gently brush up and down with both palms on the side of the knee and on the knee. Important energy channels are located here. About 1 to 2 minutes per leg.

Step 5: Points for well-being

  • The best for last: two pressure points that are simply good to work on. Both complement each other and should harmonize the flow of energy.
  • The first is called the “third hamlet at the foot” and is four finger breadths below the kneecap (where the shin feels a bit rough) and one finger breadth outwards.
  • The “bubbling spring” is located in the upper third of the sole of the foot (where two imaginary lines from the big toe and its neighbor meet below the ball).
  • Press and knead the two points one after the other on both legs or feet: slowly build up pressure with the middle finger or thumb, hold for 1 minute, release. Then knead loosely for a short time to release the pressure. 4 to 6 times per point.

Massage equipment for cellulite treatment

An electric massager massages the connective tissue, is said to promote blood circulation and the elimination of toxins. Many devices work additionally with infrared warmth, which is supposed to affect body fat cells, warm it up and thus divert it into the metabolism. Massage rollers are also said to make thighs, bottom and belly firmer – studded with nubs or needles, they stimulate the blood circulation of the skin at least during and after the massage. However, they cannot permanently win the fight against cellulite.

Lymph drainage – everything in flow

Lymphatic drainage is performed by a physiotherapist or masseur, using massage grips and pressure techniques to loosen adhesions in the tissue and stimulate blood and lymph circulation. The lymphatic vessel system is the most important transport system in the body besides the blood circulation. If the lymphatic flow is disturbed, the fluid can accumulate in the tissue, which leads to swelling under the skin. Manual lymph drainage takes about 30 minutes and costs between 75 and 100 USD.

Brush massage does good

It stimulates the blood circulation and refines the skin texture at the same time: the brush massage can revitalize the whole body daily before or after showering. Tip: If you have dry skin, it is better to massage it before showering, then do not dry the skin completely later, and use the remaining moisture to massage in an invigorating oil.

Can anti-cellulite creams fix it?

Orange peel skin concerns up to 90% of all women over 20 – with most different methods one tries to work against the Beauty problem, unfortunately only few help. From cheap to expensive everything is present: Rollers, oils, plasters and anti-cellulite creams promise a smooth skin surface, a firmer skin feeling and the reduction of cellulite. Can they do it? The answer is yes and no. To completely remove dents, creams would have to penetrate deeper skin layers and reach the fat cells, but they can’t. So cellulite cannot simply be creamed away – the only way to firm the outer layer of skin is with special products containing active ingredients such as caffeine and green tea.

In addition, experts proclaim in unison: There is only hope of effect if the body is not offered more and more fat at the same time.

But we can do a lot for the stimulation of the metabolism:

  • with rubbing, alternating showers or targeted grips, such as the cellulite massage. In this way, congestions can be relieved and the fat depots are less obvious.
  • This effect can be supported by shower gels with blood circulation-promoting ingredients (e.g. ginkgo, ivy or algae), even if they only remain on the skin for a short time. If they are massaged on regularly, preferably in circular movements, they can have a slight firming effect (e.g. with the help of an integrated nub attachment).
  • Always apply a good cream or oil afterwards to prevent the skin from drying out.
  • Body oils with extracts of birch leaves, rosemary or lemongrass are suitable to enhance the draining effect.

Without exercise and nutrition it does not work…

Without a balanced diet and plenty of exercise it won’t work! Endurance sports such as swimming, running, walking and gymnastics with targeted muscle building in the legs, abdomen and bottom are ideal. After all, fat pads tend to collect on muscles that are not so active.
