Carrot oil is an absolute beauty tip. It is said to clear the skin, protect it from the sun and repair broken hair ends.
Beet, spice or carrot? No matter – the main thing is that it makes you beautiful
We know the good old carrot as a visual acuity, but that it does skin and hair just as well is largely unknown. Carrot oil is often used in cosmetics as an ingredient for body and facial skin, and its carotenes are valued for their repairing effect. It is found in skin masks, creams, facial oils and hair products. It is most frequently used as skin care against pimples. For cosmetics, the oil is extracted from the seeds of the wild carrot. Only the root of the carrot is used to extract the oil.
Carrot oil for the skin: Cell protection in orange
- The carotenes in the carrot have a cell protecting effect, they are antioxidants. Their provitamin A is important for the cell renewal of the skin. Note: It is essential to integrate it into our anti-aging care.
- In a plant, carotenes have the task of participating in photosynthesis and protecting the plant from the consequences of harmful UV rays. To use carrot oil as pure UV protection would be grossly negligent, but the carrot is considered a great helper in natural sun care.
- Oily and blemished skin appreciates the ingredients of the beet! Because it has a regulating effect, helps reduce inflammation and can clear up impure skin. It also has a slightly drying effect, which is why oily skin can benefit from it.
- The slight coloring effect the oil has on the skin can be a natural self-tanner. Whether the coloring of the skin appears natural depends on the skin type. If you want to experiment with it, you should start outside the face. After all, we don’t want to become a Donald Trump look-alike, we just want to give our complexion a summer glow.
Carrot oil for the hair
Carrot oil is ideal for the care of broken hair ends. It is also said to have a positive effect on hair loss – studies on this do not exist, however.
Warm carrot oil slightly, massage it into the tips of the hair, let it work for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Important: Do not use the carrot oil on the scalp, because the carotenes discolor it – which is especially irritating for light hair.
Making carrot oil yourself – this is how it works
You can even get pure carrot oil in drugstores. But it’s not that complicated to make carrot oil yourself. You need:
- 20 ml cold pressed sesame oil (you can also use jojoba oil or almond oil)
- a grated carrot (preferably from organic farming)
- a large sealable glass
- a sterile glass bottle (boil out before)
- a pot
- a kitchen towel or a clean tea towel
And this is how it works: Put sesame oil and a grated carrot into the closable glass and put it into a hot water bath. Heat until the grated carrots are soft and the oil is colored orange. Strain the mixture through a clean tea towel and pour into the storage bottles.
