Broken Hair: SOS Strategies for Quick Shine

Blunt, knotted and impossible to shape? We know seven quick tricks to do good to broken hair.

Broken hair? When the shine is gone

Hair coloring, too much sun, excessive styling with heat, product residues – all these can damage our hair and make it look dull and rough. We have a few SOS strategies that will bring back the shine to your hair.

Hair care – but properly!

Anyone who has really dull hair will know that nothing works without conditioner. Because after shampooing, no brush can get through the clutter. The shampoo is there to cleanse the hair and also to remove product residue. A conditioner then helps to coat the hair with protection and to strengthen the hair structure.

Extra care once a week

A conditioner is mainly used to protect the hair from daily stress, a hair treatment or mask is supposed to supply the hair with nutrients and rebuild its structure. So once a week a mask should be on the care program for broken hair – more frequent application would be counterproductive and would stress the hair.

Styling? Only with heat protection!

Anyone who already has a damaged hair structure should be careful when styling. Blow dry, work the hair with a straightening iron or curling iron – as soon as the hair comes into contact with heat, you should wet it beforehand with a heat protection spray. It is also important to never straighten damp hair. Because straighteners can heat up to 200 degrees! Without heat protection, irreparable damage can occur in the hair.

Choose the right hairbrush

The importance of choosing the right brush is often underestimated. Cheap plastic brushes can damage the structure of the hair, so investing in a good brush is actually worthwhile.

More beautiful hair through nutrition

Beautiful hair also depends on the diet. Because you can actually influence the condition of your skin and hair by consuming foods that have been proven to be good for you. Kale, spinach, honeydew melons, carrots, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cereals or eggs, for example.

Beware of styling mistakes

If you tie a tight ponytail every day, you can usually see that there is a kink at the point where the hair was held together by the elastic. We know that metal parts on hair ties can damage hair. But even if we use the spiral elastics invented for this phenomenon, a tight braid can damage the hair because it strains the hair roots. Better: vary the height of the braid and don’t tie it too tight.

Sun, sea and hair damage

If you are planning an excessive sun holiday with splashing about at the sea, you should pack a UV protection series for your hair. Because the sun can damage the hair structure just as it can attack the skin. Special shampoos, conditioners and styling products with UV protection are now available from various manufacturers.

Snip snap, cut my hair!

Only one thing can help against real split ends at the ends of your hair: scissors. A regular haircut is a must to get rid of broken tips.
