Hated, frowned upon and to be avoided at all costs – the enfant terrible among beauty trends is definitely the blue eye shadow. But is there really any reason to avoid skipping work in 2020?
In the 90s and early 2000s it was the absolute hit: blue eye shadow. In the following decades, however, it was not only frowned upon but simply hated. If you ask a member of the public which color is not in the make-up collection, you always get the same answer: blue. While in the 90s we were still absolutely into color, in recent years the neutral earth tones have fought for supremacy in the beauty realm. However, lately there is a constant flash of blue in the eyes of catwalk models and some stars, especially Lily Collins, apply sometimes strong, sometimes soft blue eye shadow to the red carpets.
Now the American colour institute Pantone has also announced that the trend colour 2020 is “Classic Blue”. So we are literally starting the new decade with a blue miracle. This raises a question: Is blue eye shadow really still a no-go? We will show you four looks that have not only convinced us of the opposite, but that will certainly seduce you to take a no-go.
Retro Mint
We especially love light blue tones in pastel when they are applied to the entire eyelid. Simply blend a little, optionally add a catliner and tuck in the lashes neatly – ready is the relaxed 60s retro look á la Twiggy and Brigitte Bardot.
“Classic Blue” drama
Star make-up artist Patrick Ta uses the trend colour 2020 “Classic Blue” for this dramatic look. He focuses a rich royal blue on the outer corner of the eye and uses the “Classic Blue” tone on the lower lash line to frame the eye. For absolute high gloss and more dimension, the make-up artist adds a gloss to the front eye area – what a mega look!
Mermazing
Didn’t we all want to be a mermaid when we were kids? Well, with the perfect make-up look, we can turn ourselves into a beguiling siren right now. This shimmering aqua-look on Hayley Bieber gives us absolute mermaid vibes! Extra subtle? The halo effect created by the sparkling green in the middle of the eyelid.
Wing it!
If you don’t want to go for blue completely, simply combine the exciting colour with shimmering champagne tones and set cool accents. A discreet make-up look with a blue eyelid line becomes a mega eye-catcher. Whether as a fine catliner or dramatic wing – blue provides the necessary pop of colour in an otherwise neutral beauty world.
