We love Ponytail!

The ponytail is the simplest of all hairstyles, which we master even in our sleep. But that a classic pigtail is by no means boring is shown in our photo gallery with exciting and completely new ponytail hairstyles. A plait is quick to make, but can look quite sophisticated if you style it properly. You can wear it with or without bangs, in half-long (from chin length) or long hair, even short hair can be transformed into a ponytail hairstyle with a hairpiece. Loosely tied back with a hair tie on the first date, tied up and braided during sports, tied at the side for going out. The classic hairstyle can be styled fast and simple or chic and elaborate.

The ponytail is the hairstyle for every occasion and all hair lengths

Ponytails are more popular than ever and really have nothing more to do with schoolgirl looks. Also at work the ponytail is absolutely accepted. One study even says that women who have tied their hair to a ponytail seem more competent than their female colleagues who wear open hair. More personnel judge application pictures with braids better, with women who have combed back or pinned up hair, they assume that the applicants have much more leadership competence than those with open mane. A plait keeps the hair out of the face, which generally gives the impression of being tidy and concentrated. But the ponytail does not only make a career in the job.

Variations of the ponytail

  • It can even be transformed into a sophisticated braided hairstyle. If it is tied high, the long hair can be twisted, braided with four strands or tied as a herringbone plait. The hair can also be straightened with a straightening iron in the sleek look or styled with a curling iron to a wavy mane.
  • A quickly made plait variant: a ponytail that is coiffed once very high on the top of the head and once very low on the neck.
  • Or the backcombed variant: Slightly backcomb the hair at the back of the head, place the comb over the upper strands and tie them together in a braid.
  • A nice idea to make the braid look a little more elegant: Wrap a strand of hair from the braid around the scrunchy and then fix it invisibly under the braid with a hairgrip.
  • If you don’t like to let your hair dangle in your neck, you can simply tie a bun out of the braid. This can be easily styled as a top knot, loose and messy, or glamorously as a pinned-up hairstyle.
  • You can find great ideas and stylings on photo platforms like Pinterest or Instagram under the hashtag #Ponytail.

Step-by-step instructions for a ponytail with volume

  1. To make the hair more manageable, it is best to dust with volume powder.

Part the hair at the sides and backcomb single, thin strands. Then mist with hairspray.
  2. To the sides, the hair on the top of the head is attached.

Slightly straighten the tousled areas on the surface.

Tie the hair at the back of the head to the ponytail. Here too, lightly backcomb the hair at the base of the braid, spray with hair spray and then carefully straighten.
  3. Separate a thin strand of hair from the braid, wrap it around the hair tie and fix it with bobby pins.

Finally, fix the ponytail with volume with hairspray.

Step-by-step instructions for the strict ponytail

  1. First brush the hair smoothly backwards. Leave out a small strand.

Pull the hair on top of the head with a comb and tie it into a high ponytail. The braid must be really tight.
  2. Wrap the cut-out strand around the hair tie and fix it as unobtrusively as possible with bobby pins. Additionally fix it with hairspray.
  3. Tame flying hairs on the top of the head with gel.

Finally, mist everything with hairspray.

Do I style the ponytail with and without parting?

Our pictures of hairstyles with a ponytail show that a face can have a completely different effect if a braid is tied strictly to the back or only loosely combined. Even a parting can make a ponytail look completely different again, center parting, side parting or without parting combed backwards – it’s all a question of look: If we parted the hair in the middle and tied it up high at the back of the head, the strands of hair fluff to the beach look, the hairstyle fits perfectly to long flower dresses in hippie style. The plaited version without parting is great for meetings and the side parting in the sleek look is great for a chic restaurant. If you wear a pony in longer hair, you can use the ponytail to style it differently: Parting and blow-drying with a fringed hairstyle, for example. Blow-dry over the round brush or smooth it down with a flat iron.

Our tips for the perfect ponytail

  • To tie a classic ponytail it is ideal if the hair is not completely freshly washed. Then they have a better grip and hold better in the hair tie – especially with fine hair. The effect can also be created with a salt or sugar spray, which textures the hair, and mousse can also give fine hair more volume.
  • If you want to tease the hair to give the ponytail more volume, you can also work with a special volume powder that provides fullness.
  • If you tie a ponytail every day, it is best to use spiral hair gums like the invisibobble. They hold the braid firmly without slipping, but do not leave any pressure marks in the hair when the rubber is pulled out again. A real advantage compared to conventional hair rubbers: hair often breaks off exactly at the point where the rubber or metal closure is located.

What is the Ditzy Ponytail?

The hype is just starting: The “Ditzy Ponytail” is conquering the social networks. Chrissy Teigen, Khloé Kardashian and Gigi Hadid already wear it. But what’s behind the melodious name? Very little. The “silly ponytail” is made in about 30 seconds. However, elbow-long hair is required – preferably slightly wavy. You tie them together in a high braid and – watch out, it’s getting crazy now – tease the hair in the braid so that the ponytail gets a wild volume. Mega trend or old hat? The main thing is that the hairstyle finally has a cool name.

Our tips: To make the hair more manageable, it is best to dust with volume powder. Instead of volume powder, dry shampoo also works to make the hair more manageable. After teasing (works best with a fine-toothed comb), mist the mane with hair spray to make it last longer.
