Almased Diet: Finally Lose Weight with Shakes?

The Almased diet belongs to the so-called formula diets, where meals are replaced by shakes. We reveal what’s behind it.

Almased diet: Losing weight with shakes

  • The idea is very simple: instead of a meal, simply consume a shake and save calories. This is what distinguishes a formula diet. Almased is a provider of these shakes, which provides a clear diet plan, so that your weight should gradually decrease over time.
  • The diet is divided into different phases. How the weight loss should work and what we think of the diet, you will learn now.

Almased diet: Ingredients

  • The shake contains mainly soya, honey, yoghurt and amino acids from vegetable and animal protein. The total protein content is 50 percent. A diet regulation stipulates that a weight loss shake should contain 25 to 50 percent protein and a maximum of 30 percent fat.
  • There is no sugar added to the shake, but the honey makes one portion of the shake about 15 grams of sugar. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers 25 grams of sugar per day as the maximum value. In the first phase of the diet alone, you will already take in 45 grams of sugar with three servings a day.
  • All in all, the shake also contains a small amount of dietary fibre, so that digestion may cause problems and saturation may not occur satisfactorily.

Almased diet: Calories

  • Calories: 230 kcal (per serving of 230 ml)
  • Protein: 26.7 grams
  • Carbohydrates: 15.3 grams
  • Of which sugar: 14.9 grams
  • Fat: 7 grams

Initial phase

The first phase lasts 3 to 14 days and is designed to prepare and tune you and your body for the diet. You replace each meal a day (3 servings) with a shake. You may eat vegetable broth with it if you wish. It is important to drink enough water or unsweetened tea.

Reduction phase

During the reduction phase you replace breakfast and dinner with a shake. As main meal you choose a dish with few carbohydrates. You should definitely avoid snacks between meals. However, you can also swap lunch and dinner. You can go through this phase until you have lost a few pounds and are approaching or actually reaching your desired weight.

Stabilisation phase

Now it’s all about keeping the weight down and avoiding the yo-yo effect. To do this, you just replace one meal a day with a shake and otherwise keep your diet low in carbohydrates.

Life phase

The phase of life is, so to speak, the return to a normal diet with fixed meals distributed throughout the day. However, half a shake should be consumed in the morning and half a shake in the evening to absorb important micronutrients.

Conclusion

  • Pro: Especially people who are very overweight can quickly lose a lot of weight in the first days and weeks if they follow the diet. As a starting point for a permanent dietary change Almased can be a good help for some.
  • Contra: The taste of Almased does not suit everyone. If you want to follow through with the diet anyway, it will probably be a torture for you. In addition, the products of Almased are not exactly cheap. There are other suppliers of diet shakes that are comparatively cheap, but of course the ingredients are never identical. If you have a balanced diet, you don’t need any additional shakes (as foreseen in the phase of life) or you can make them yourself. In addition, the Almased-Shakes also contain a relatively high amount of sugar, even if it is honey.

Making your own shake

  • If you follow a balanced diet, there is no need for extra protein or certain supplements. However, if you are a fan of shakes, you can simply make them yourself.
  • With some low-fat curd cheese, oatmeal and berries or bananas you can mix delicious, healthy shakes to lose weight. You can also add 1-2 tablespoons of high-quality fats, for example olive oil or linseed oil.
