Making your own bath bombs is not only very easy, but also a nice DIY gift. Instructions can be found here.
A bubbling bath is simply beneficial. By adding fats and oils, bath balls also have a nourishing and relaxing effect. It is particularly nice when you know what is in the bath additive. So just do it yourself!
Making bath bombs yourself – that’s what you need
- 250 g baking soda
- 125 g citric acid (in powder form)
- 60 g cornstarch
- 60 g coconut oil (alternatively cocoa butter and almond oil are suitable)
- Essential oil according to personal preferences
- Optionally dried petals
- Food coloring (in powder form)
Instructions
- Mix baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch and food coloring in a bowl.
- In another bowl, the liquid ingredients are now added. Mix the essential oil with the melted fat.
- Mix everything slowly! If you mix the dry ingredients with the liquid ingredients too quickly, the mixture may start to bubble. The reason for this is the sodium bicarbonate, which reacts with the citric acid. These ingredients are also responsible for your fizzy bath. Therefore: always take it easy. After all, the bubbling effect should only come later. 😉
- Then it goes to the moulding. Either you form the bath bombs with your hands or you get special molds (for example an ice cube mold, a silicone mold or molds from the baking department) from the craft store. Important: Knead it firmly so that a homogeneous mass is created.
- If you like, you can decorate the bath bombs with flower petals.
- The bath bombs must then be cooled for several hours and then carefully pressed out of the molds.
- Before using or giving away, the bath bombs should be air dried for two days.
If you want to make the fizzy balls yourself without fat, you can use baking soda, citric acid, milk powder and color powder.

A bath bomb doesn’t always have to be round and you can also mix the food colors. For your homemade bath additive, you only need the basic recipe and then it’s time to customize it.
