We’ve been sitting on the wrong side of the toilet all our lives – experts have now discovered this. In the following you will find out what you have to consider when going to the toilet.
Squat like 1000 years ago
In the stone age there were no toilets. As a result, people squatted down and used bushes to protect themselves from view. With this squatting position they intuitively did everything right. Since modern times we have been sitting on modern toilet bowls, which experts say are not very practical for our digestion. The reason is that our bowel obstruction apparatus is not designed in such a way that the bowel empties completely when we sit on the toilet. A muscle that surrounds the bowel when sitting or standing causes us problems in the toilet. You can imagine it like a garden hose that has a kink and therefore lets only little water through.
How does it go right?
Instead of sitting upright on the toilet, we should sit on it. This relieves the abdominal muscles and brings the intestines into a better position. As a result, the bowel can empty itself more than twice as fast as when sitting on the toilet. But since we don’t have “squat toilets” in this country with holes in the floor, as is still common in France, we should put ourselves in a squatting position. To do this, slide a stool under our feet and lower our upper body.
Tips for a relaxed visit to the toilet
In general, you shouldn’t rush and take your time in the toilet. Only when the bowel is relaxed can it be completely emptied. It makes sense to set fixed times and do your “business” in your own bathroom. Station and department store toilets rarely offer the right atmosphere for a relaxed toilet visit.
To get the digestion going, a cup of strong coffee in the morning is always recommended. By the way, the stronger the coffee, the faster the effect. Fibre in muesli, wholemeal bread, fruit, vegetables and legumes also get your bowels going. Regularity is also important! If you always take your meals at certain times, you also get a certain routine when it comes to bowel movements.
