Cakey Foundation and a wrong shade – the horror! You can make a lot of mistakes when applying the foundation. We’ll give you five hacks that will make sure it never happens again.
Not everyone likes to wear Foundation. The reasons? There are many reasons. The face feels smoothed over, the colour simply never fits or the result is always streaky. Not with us! We’ll give you foundation hacks that will guarantee you’ll never want to go without again.
1. Ultimate match: Always buy two colors
There are countless skin tones and of course different undertones. It is logical that no beauty brand can match every colour. Our secret tip number one: always buy two colors of one foundation. This way you can mix the perfect shade for every season. The probability that the color is almost identical to your skin tone is much higher. Especially in the drugstore there is often a comparatively poor choice of colors, often there are only four colors. Here the tip can work wonders.
For example, the L’Oreal Perfect Match Foundation, the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation or the Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation have a particularly wide range of colours.
2. Full coverage with the Stippling technique
Some days we need a high coverage. Maybe because we have to cover a pimple or redness or a special occasion is coming up and the make-up has to last a long time. The highest opacity is achieved with the so-called Stippling technique. Here you apply your foundation in dabbing movements with a brush. You press the product into the skin so that the foundation achieves maximum coverage. But be careful: Never apply the make-up in pulling movements. This leaves streaks on the face – and yes, you can see them!
A little tip: The more firmly the brush is bound, the higher the coverage. Our favourites are the Zoeva Buffer Brush 104, the Real Techniques Base Expert Face Brush and the IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe™ Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush #6.
3. Work from inside to outside
If you apply your foundation with a brush, you should definitely work from the inside out. This is where most of the impurities and redness are usually hidden. So, if you apply most of the product in the middle of the face, you will also avoid unattractive make-up edges and stained results. Blend the product also a little into the hairline, which looks more natural. The result is particularly flawless if you use a slightly rounded foundation brush. But that is an absolute matter of taste.

4. Light covering power: mix in care!
You prefer a natural result? No problem! Just mix a little of your favourite skin care into your foundation, put it on a small plate or glass coaster and dab the mixture into your face. If you want, you can use your hands to spread it. The result will be especially glowy if you use a moist beauty sponge. Just see what you can handle best!
5. No time to lose!
Beyonce’s make-up artist Sir John swears not to let the moisturizer soak in before applying the foundation. He therefore always applies the product to the “still moist” day cream. The result: a second-skin effect. Sounds like something we all need, right?!
