Anyone who spends eight hours a day in the office has difficulty losing weight. But with a simple trick you can melt the calories.
Burn 350 calories – and that without sport or exercise? It works! With a simple trick, the pounds can also be dropped in the office. As a study by the University of Chester shows, you can lose weight while working, provided you leave your sitting position.
Burn calories on the side
During the study, the test persons were asked by the scientists to work in a standing position. They were asked to leave their chairs and do their work standing for at least three hours a day. The result: standing increases the heart rate, which leads to a higher calorie consumption. Specifically, a total of 0.7 calories per minute or 42 calories per hour were burned. So if you were to stand for eight hours instead of sitting, you would burn a total of 336 calories. Generously rounded up we are at 350 calories per day – just like that!
Sitting for a long time makes you fat
As several studies have shown, prolonged sitting has little positive effect on the figure and health. This is because as soon as we sit down, the activity of the enzyme lipoprotein lipase drops by 90 percent. The enzyme traps fat molecules in the blood and burns them. When we stand, however, the enzyme remains active. In addition, prolonged sitting can lead to back and headaches.
If you don’t have the opportunity to stand in your job, here are a few tips on how to incorporate more exercise into your everyday life:
- Take regular breaks from exercise, preferably every hour.
- If you use the phone while standing or walking, your voice will sound a bit more confident.
- Do little exercises to counteract tension.
- Get off one station earlier and walk the rest of the way to work.
- Use the stairs instead of the elevator and go to your colleague rather than calling him.
- Take a walk during your lunch break.
