8 Secrets of People Who Never Get Sick

Everyone knows this one person who never gets sick, even if everyone else is caught by the flu wave. But how does she manage that? We tell you her secrets.

1. Rely on vitamin C

Vitamin C is a real all-rounder – and therefore belongs on the daily menu. Why is that so? It catches free radicals in the blood, brain and body cells and makes them harmless. It also strengthens connective tissue, improves iron and calcium absorption and detoxifies the body. So: If you want to stay healthy, you should rely on lots of fruit and vegetables.

2. Sleep a lot

“Getting about eight to ten hours of sleep every night keeps you healthy,” emphasizes Amerlia Narcisi from Radnor, Pennsylvania. Sleep experts agree that enough sleep is the key to a strong immune system. A study conducted by the University of California in San Francisco found that people who sleep between five and six hours a night are 30 percent more likely to get sick. From seven hours of sleep, the risk of getting sick is minimized.

3. Mentally determined

Staying healthy is also a matter of faith! “When people tell me that they get sick at certain times of the year, I say I don’t get sick – and I won’t. It’s a matter of attitude,” explains nurse Elisha Lowe in an interview with Prevention.com.

4. Dealing with stress

Stress weakens the immune system, prevents us from falling asleep and causes ravenous attacks. In order to avoid this, you should learn to handle it properly. “I work hard at dealing with stress factors, for example by dancing, meditating, visualizing and affirming life,” says Ph.D Kathy Gruver.

5. Wash your hands

We have all been preached to since we were little: “Don’t forget to wash your hands!” And this is true not only in certain seasons, when waves of flu and certain viruses are rampant, but always. The reason: by washing your hands, you can demonstrably reduce infectious diseases such as flu, colds and diarrhoea significantly.

6. Exercise

Regular exercise strengthens your immune system and makes you less susceptible to respiratory infections, according to a study in the Journal of Sport and Health Science. “My husband and I exercise at least three times a week,” Julie Michener tells “Prevention.com” and adds, “I think that’s why I never get sick, even though everyone else in the office does.

7. Telework

Do you have the opportunity to work in the home office from time to time? Then take advantage of it, because supposedly it is supposed to keep you healthy. At any rate, Christina Halper Gorini is certain: “Since I found a new job that lets me work at home, I’m almost never sick.” At least she doesn’t have to expose herself to germs from the subway or sick colleagues.

8. Downshift
