Babies have a very high need for sleep, nevertheless they wake up regularly and want to satisfy their hunger. Tired of being freshly wrapped and still having trouble escaping to slumberland? Sometimes babies have problems falling back to sleep, even if it is still so cuddly on mummy’s or daddy’s arm. We introduce you to some practical aids for babies to fall asleep.
Establish daily rhythm and sleep rituals
Babies need a lot of attention and also physical closeness, which gives them security and allows them to rest. Unfortunately, this is not a panacea for a calm baby sleep, especially since babies wake up about every two to three hours in the first months because they are hungry. If it is difficult for them to fall asleep, the following causes could also be behind it:
- Teeth
- Flatulence
- Unrest in the environment
In the first two months, however, babies sleep up to 19 hours a day, in the third and fourth months up to 18 hours, and in the fifth and sixth months 14 to 16 hours. This is the total length of sleep – sleeping through the night is still out of the question. The day-night rhythm only develops in the course of time, from about the fourth or fifth month onwards it slowly sets in.
For babies and toddlers, a regular daily routine makes sense, as long as it can be integrated into the daily routine. Daily routines, but also sleep rituals, give children structure and orientation and signal to them that it is soon time for bed. Soundscape to fall asleep
The white noise in particular is a popular sleep aid for babies. Why? The white noise is reminiscent of the sounds in the womb and thus conveys a feeling of security and safety. White noise for the baby is available as a cuddly toy, a portable device or as an app. Alternatively, music boxes with melodies or cuddly toys that simulate heartbeat are suitable as sleeping companions. For some children, nature sounds such as the sound of the sea or relaxation music also work.

Even babies can distinguish between light and dark. If it is too bright, not only adults are disturbed, but also the dear little ones when they fall asleep. Nevertheless, a night light can be a good aid to falling asleep and have a calming effect on the baby. Avoid blue light, as it could hinder the baby from falling asleep.
