Circulatory disorders are particularly common during the cold season. With these home remedies we can gently stimulate the circulation – and thus warm ourselves from the inside.
Numbness, calf cramps, constantly cold feet and hands: the list of symptoms of circulatory disorders is long. Around one in three Germans over 40 is affected by poor circulation. However, most of them have no idea about it for a long time: the first symptoms only appear when one of the blood vessels is more than 70 percent blocked. It is therefore all the more important that we promote blood circulation and treat complaints in good time!
What are circulatory problems?
Only when our body is properly supplied with blood, our organs receive sufficient oxygen and nutrients. If the arteries are clogged or narrowed, the blood can no longer flow unhindered – then we speak of circulatory disorders.
But even those who are otherwise spared from poor circulation can be affected by cold limbs in autumn and winter. The reason: In the cold, the body concentrates on keeping vital organs such as the heart warm and uses more energy to do so. Therefore, all blood is pumped to the centre of the body and limbs such as arms and legs cool down faster.
Promoting blood circulation: What are the causes of poor circulation?
Circulatory disorders can have various causes, often the following causes are present:
- Poor diet (high fat and sugar)
- Lack of exercise
- Nicotine
- Alcohol
- Diabetes
Appropriate measures: These home remedies warm us up
If we want to stimulate the blood circulation, we should use household remedies that warm from the inside instead of the film tablets prescribed by the doctor. These include:
Chili
Spicy food with chili really heats us up from the inside. So when it’s cold, dishes such as chili con or sin carne should be on the menu more often – they are delicious and can promote circulation.
Ginger
There is hardly anything that ginger cannot do: It boosts the immune system and boosts the metabolism, and ginger also helps against bad breath. And: the pungent substances in the tuber warm us up completely from within. Our blood vessels therefore enjoy a nice cup of ginger tea in the cold.
Massages with rosemary oil
A massage alone stimulates the blood flow – rosemary oil even enhances the effect. Rosemary is not only effective against circulatory disorders, but also prevents tension.
Swap showers
In order to start the morning with energy, alternating showers are ideal for stimulating the blood circulation. They also stimulate the circulation in general. In an alternating shower, the body is showered three times with cold and warm water alternately from bottom to top. The cold phase should always be the last when showering!
Water treading
Pastor Kneipp already knew: treading water or a leg massage gently trains the vessels and can promote the blood circulation in the legs.
