Whether torn out or fallen out, we have the answers to the question: Do eyelashes grow back?
Phew, is that the time? Quickly rub your eyes with a cotton wool pad to remove mascara and co. and off to the feathers! But whoever thinks that nothing more stands in the way of the desired bed rest is mistaken. Because quickly one or the other eyelash is torn out. But the use of mascara or eyelash curlers also puts a strain on the hairs – fancy eyelashes can be the result. Thus the lashes quickly appear uneven and patchy. How often and when lashes grow back and what you can do for long lashes is explained in the text.
Do eyelashes grow back? Eyelash Facts
Do eyelashes grow back? Yes, they do! However, if eyelashes fall out or break off, they need some time to grow back. This duration is different for every person. However, there are remedies that are supposed to shorten the time span.
- The length of the eyelashes is individually and genetically determined. The average number is 150 to 250 lashes on the upper eyelid and 50 to 100 lashes on the lower lash line.
- After about 100 to 150 days, eyelashes fall out.
- The upper lashes become up to 13 millimetres long and the lower hairs up to eight millimetres long.
Regrowth of eyelashes – The three phases of eyelash growth
The growth of the lashes can be divided into three phases:
- Anagen phase: In the first phase, eyelashes grow mainly in length. The growth phase lasts about 30 to 45 days. In the end, eyelashes have a length of up to 13 millimetres. The duration of the first phase and also the length of the eyelashes depends on different factors, for example sex, age and on the nutrients and vitamins that are taken in with food.
- Catagen phase: In the second phase the lashes do not become longer. Cell production is stopped and the hair root anchors itself in the eyelid.
- Telogen phase: The third phase is to be understood as a resting phase. During the next 100 days the hair root regenerates, a new eyelash grows back, which causes the old eyelash to be rejected and fall out. Thus the eyelash growth starts again from the beginning (starting with phase one).
Accelerate eyelash growth – Tips and tricks
- Daily care: apply a thin layer of vaseline or nourishing cosco, jojoba or castor oil to the lashes every day. This provides the hairs with moisture during the growth phase and prevents the lashes from drying out. But also the use of an eyelash serum supports the growth of the eyelashes and makes them longer and thicker.
- Right nutrition: Biotin strengthens the eyelashes and prevents the hairs from falling out prematurely. Biotin is found in eggs, salmon, bananas, carrots, nuts or beans, for example.
- Massages: Massage the eyelid for a few minutes every day. This stimulates the blood circulation and the hair root for eyelash growth. Alternatively brush the eyelashes.
So you can prevent eyelashes from falling out
- Do not forget to remove your make-up! Otherwise the eyelashes may fall off. Oil-based make-up removers are ideal.
- Apply a nourishing oil or eyelash serum to the lash line.
- Do without mascara more often. This allows the lashes to regenerate and the hairs are provided with moisture and nutrients that are necessary for healthy growth. So do not apply mascara too often!
- Never tug at the lashes. This increases the risk that the hairs fall out earlier.
