Every user seeks permanence when choosing a perfume. It waits for a breeze that will last for hours, as if it were the smell of the skin itself. Of course, the permanence of perfumes also depends on some criteria. Some of these criteria are also related to usage. You can take a look at our article to learn how to choose a more long lasting perfume and how to make it more permanent.
Can Perfume Last Longer?
Unfortunately, there is no scent that will stay on your skin for a lifetime, but there are features that make scents more long lasting. In order to choose a long lasting perfume, you must first know the types of fragrances.
Although all scents are embedded in our language as perfumes, not all scents are actually perfumes. Fragrances are divided into EDC, EDT, EDP and Extrait. EDC stands for Eau De Cologne, EDT stands for Eau de Toilette, EDP stands for Eau de Parfum and Extrait stands for Extrait De Parfum. One of these phrases will definitely appear on the fragrance you will buy. The most intense fragrances are Extrait de Parfum, but it is not often found in the market due to its price.
The Mark of Persistence is Hidden in These Expressions: EDC, EDT, EDP
Eau De Cologne fragrances contain between 2% and 5% perfume essence. This ratio is between 5% and 15% in Eau de Toilette products, between 15% and 20% in Eau de Parfum fragrances, and around 20% to 30% in Extrait De Parfum products. Perfume essence determines permanence.
Of course, the most lasting fragrance does not mean the best. E.g; A very intense scent is difficult and uncomfortable to use in the summer heat. For this reason, summer editions are mostly made in EDT form, even if EDP composition is present, the notes in the perfume consist of fresh essences. Permanence of perfume should be appropriate to the environment, time and image of the user. EDTs are used more while doing sports.
While EDP is chosen for night parties, EDCs are used when instant refreshing scents are desired. EDC products usually stay on the skin for up to 1 – 2 hours, EDTs in the range of 3 – 5 hours, EDPs for 6 – 8 hours. The permanence of Extrait de Parfum products can last up to 12 hours.
Permanence of Perfume Varies from Person to Person
Not every perfume smells the same on everyone, nor does it stay on every skin for the same time. Many details such as the oil level of the skin, the person’s usage habits, the fabric of the clothing, food consumption, and smoking affect the odor and its release.
Everyone’s skin smell is different. This also changes the stance of the fragrance on the skin. If you are a person who consumes very spicy food, your skin odor will change accordingly and will differ from someone who does not consume spices at all. Even if you apply the same scent, you will not get the same result. People with oily skin tend to have a more lasting scent. Users with dry skin may complain that the scent fades even if they use the same perfume. Failure to provide the correct storage conditions of the perfume also causes the permanence of the fragrance to decrease.
It is Possible to Make Perfume More Long Lasting with Correct Use
Different tricks can be paid attention to to make the perfume more long lasting. Here are some of them:
- By-products such as deodorant, lotion and shower gel with the same scent as the perfume can be used.
- Cotton or wool fabrics scented with perfume can be placed between clothes, in cabinets and drawers.
If the skin is very dry, it can be moistened with an unscented lotion before perfume. Then, when perfume is sprayed on that area, it promises a more lasting effect. - The scent sprayed on the pulse points will be more long lasting. When the body temperature rises in areas such as the back of the knee, the inside of the elbow, the wrists, and the neck, the odor rises rapidly.
- Women; Long lasting odor can be obtained when perfume is applied to oily parts of the body, such as between the chest and behind the ears. If the body is excessively oily, these areas should not be preferred. Too much oil spoils the scent of the perfume.
- It is also important for a clear sense that the smell does not mix. Perfume should be applied to clean skin, different scents should not be sprayed on top of each other. Perfume should not be applied when sweaty. Trying to suppress sweat with perfume will only spread a worse odour.
Common Mistakes About Perfume
A lot of misinformation about wearing perfume has been spread among the public. Squeezing the perfume into the air and passing through the formed cloud does not make the perfume more long lasting. This causes only the molecules to come into contact with the air. In other words, the perfume is wasted. Spraying the fragrance directly on your skin from an average distance of 10 cm is the right way to apply.
Perfume may stain the clothes due to the components in it, or it may not give you the smell you expect by combining with the detergent smell on the clothes. Instead of spraying perfume on clothes or hair, you should use perfume on your skin. Since the smell will rise with the heat, the smell will spread on the clothes as your skin warms up. It is not recommended to use perfume on hair. Since the perfume is oily and alcoholic, contact of the scalp with this ingredient may cause the hair to become heavy.
If you want a scent that will spread to the hair, you can be content with spraying perfume behind your ears and around your neck. Perfumes should never be stored in the refrigerator. The belief that odors stored in the refrigerator are more long lasting is that fresh perfumes should be kept in the cold for a while in order to mix the newly created perfume essences that have just met with alcohol. However, ready-made and bottled perfumes have already passed this stage in the laboratory environment. Re-chilling them will only cause the odor molecules to break down and the odor to be even less persistent.
The scent may become different by losing its original breeze. It is not how much you squeeze the perfume that makes it more long lasting. Top, middle and bottom notes, respectively, become prominent in the perfume scent. The scent of perfume changes over time as the essences in it come to the fore in order and takes you on a journey. At the end of the hours, mainly the lower notes are felt on the skin. Refreshing your perfume repeatedly causes the top and bottom notes to mix again and again, and the first scent is felt and carried on top all day long before the magical journey promised by the perfume takes place.
