Every now and then, the annoying unwanted facial hair (black hairs) appear on your face. But should you really pluck them out?
What is unwanted facial hair?
Just as unattractive as their name is the sight of the annoying black hairs that sprout sporadically on the face, mostly on the chin area, and keep growing back even after being plucked out several times. Even if science is still in disagreement, the assumption is that the cause of unwanted facial hair is genetic. However, fluctuating hormone levels, such as those common during menopause, can also cause the annoying hairs. By the way: The fact that Unwanted Facial Hair usually grows near a pigment spot or out of a birthmark is no coincidence, since hair production at this location is favored by the pigment disorder.
Can I pluck out unwanted facial hair?
In principle, there is nothing to be said against gently plucking out the unwanted facial hair with standard tweezers. However, extreme caution is advised: Especially in sensitive areas such as moles and pigmentation spots, this can promote pathological skin changes, so in this case you should better keep your hands off the tweezers. There is also the risk of an ingrown witch hair, which is not only painful, but can also become infected.
Which unwanted hair removal method is the best?
1. Shaving
Instead, you can carefully shave off the unwanted facial hair or cut it off with nail scissors. But even here you should proceed carefully. Especially in the case of pigment spots and birthmarks, there is a risk of damaging the skin by shaving. The next downer: The black hairline is still visible despite shaving and the unwanted facial hair grows back quickly.
2. Laser treatment
In addition, there is the possibility of removing unwanted facial hair with laser therapy. This is the gentlest method of hair removal, as the roots of the unwanted facial hair are destroyed by light pulses and thus prevented from growing back. However, even this hair removal method is not always promising and must not be used on moles and pigmentation spots, as this could damage the surrounding skin tissue. You should therefore clarify with your dermatologist whether laser therapy is an option for you.
3. Epilation
Epilation is another option for removing facial hair. With this technique, you can remove unwanted facial hair (for up to three to four weeks). But you should avoid epilation or wax strips as much as possible! With this extensive hair removal method, your skin is only exposed to unnecessary skin irritation.
