After the holidays, for many people it is time to say goodbye to junk food. In the following you will find out which foods and drinks you should now reach for…
1. Green tea
Green tea is a real miracle weapon in the fight against the pounds that have accumulated over Christmas and New Year’s Eve. On the one hand, the tea boosts the metabolism so that calories are burnt even when at rest, and on the other hand, the tea extract lowers the blood sugar level. This in turn regulates the insulin level.
Furthermore, green tea has powerful antioxidants that neutralize free radicals that you absorb through your environment. Thus, the hot drink can even prevent cancer or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
2. Porridge
After days full of junk food your body will surely be looking forward to an oatmeal for breakfast. Porridge is very healthy, because oats are one of the most valuable cereals due to its vitamins and minerals as well as its high protein and fibre content. The dietary fibres regulate the digestion and provide a protective layer in the stomach.
The best thing about oatmeal: despite its high calorie content, oatmeal does not make you fat. Instead, they provide lots of energy and keep you full for a long time.
3. Bananas
If you have overdone it a little with alcohol over the holidays, it is best to reabsorb the lost minerals through fruit. Bananas provide important substances such as magnesium and potassium, which strengthen the nerves and improve the ability to think. Because of the fruit sugar they contain, bananas are quick energy suppliers – and are particularly popular with athletes. Vitamin B6 also plays a role in protein metabolism.
4. Yoghurt and fruit
After the vast quantities of chocolate and other sweets, natural yoghurt offers the right alternative. It contains a lot of calcium and protein, but few calories. Whether you take the yoghurt as a small snack or as breakfast: it tastes best in combination with fresh fruit or muesli.
By the way, yoghurt contains probiotics, living bacteria that are considered to be beneficial to health. They are said to relieve diarrhoea, strengthen the immune system and possibly even prevent intestinal cancer.
5. Veggie omelette
An omelette made from a maximum of two eggs, but with lots of vegetables, is a great meal for the big appetite. With the vegetables, what tastes good is allowed. A great, low-carbohydrate dish that makes the pounds drop. Even people who want to cure their hangover can be bold, because an egg omelette with tomato, onion and paprika provides your body with the destroyed B and C vitamins.
6. Water
Besides all the caffeinated and alcoholic drinks, you should drink enough water on the days after New Year’s Eve. Water helps to flush the toxins out of the body and regulate digestion.
