During your period, your body is under constant stress. In order not to burden yourself even more, you should better avoid these 5 things.
You’re sensitive and irritable when your period starts? Then these 5 things belong to your personal No-Gos!
1. Unhealthy meals
Do you repeatedly give in to ravenous appetites for sweets and fatty foods during your period? Then let me tell you: …the proper diet is essential to your well-being at this stage of your cycle. Fast food and the like are heavy on the stomach and put a strain on the entire gastrointestinal tract. A diet rich in magnesium and calcium and a good supply of vitamins are better – especially if you suffer from regular abdominal pain.
2. Little sleep
Studies have shown that women sleep much more restlessly and less deeply before and during their menstruation. This is despite the fact that they have an increased need for sleep during their periods to compensate for their discomfort. Our tip: Avoid a lot of caffeine and avoid eating late in the evening. Which brings us to the next no-go on the list …
3. Alcohol and nicotine
Alcohol increases PMS and headaches during the days. In addition, wine and the like affect your sleep patterns – and even the time you ovulate. Cigarettes are just as harmful and you should also keep your hands off them during this phase of your cycle. The reason: smoking reduces the blood flow to the tissues and thus increases cramps.
4. Staying on the couch
Do you prefer to spend your time on the couch during your period to indulge your misery? Not a good idea, because it puts a damper on the mood. Go out into nature and get some fresh air. A walk relieves stress, strengthens the immune system and boosts self-esteem – in no time at all.
5. Aspirin as painkiller
Aspirin is not the best remedy of choice if you want to get your menstrual problems under control. The reason is that the drug has a blood-thinning effect and thus increases your bleeding. It is better to use preparations that only contain one active substance, such as ibuprofen, naproxen or paracetamol.
